The weather might be chilly but the international market is hot and from Saturday, December 3, Deauville will host the esteemed Vente d’Elevage by Arqana. The unmissable event will run over four days featuring a catalogue filled with an abundance of well-related broodmares for the discerning Australasian breeder looking to access European bloodlines.
Arqana’s Australian and New Zealand representative, Belmont Bloodstock Agency's (FBAA) Damon Gabbedy, is en route to Deauville and is very much looking forward to welcoming back the Australasian contingent following a few years of travel restrictions. Gabbedy has been hard at work leading up to the sale encouraging Australasian buyers to take a close look at the daughters of stallions such as Frankel (GB), Galileo (Ire), Dubawi (Ire), Siyouni (Fr), See The Stars (Ire), Lope De Vega (Ire) and Kingman (GB).

“Obtaining mares of this quality is a great way to improve the Australasian broodmare population,” Gabbedy said. Following on from the sale's many years of success and the undeniable accomplishments of recent Australian performers bred in France, he anticipates a strong attendance from agents, trainers, breeders and owners. “The Vente d’Elevage by Arqana provides a wonderful opportunity to acquire mares from some of the best French breeders and tap into their premium foundation families. It is the ideal sale to add some ‘French Flair’ to your broodmare band.”
Notably, there are 22 daughters of Siyouni, who is having great success in Australia, catalogued and 3 broodmares offered for sale in foal to Siyouni. Lot 142, Roselyne (Fr) (Dariyan {Fr}) is in foal to Siyouni and due to foal Southern Hemisphere time.
The auction will begin at 10am (local time) on December 3, featuring 1036 lots over four days, including a complete dispersal from the legendary Haras du Quesnay. Founded by the late Alec Head, the draft includes several relatives of the 2013 European Horse of the Year, 2013 Champion 3-Year-Old Filly in Europe and dual Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner, Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}). Lot 166 – her weanling half-sister by Group 1-winning sire, Le Havre (Ire), provides an opportunity to purchase a rare collector’s item from his final crop.
Lot 166 - Le Havre (Ire) x Trevise (Fr) (filly)
The G2 Moonee Valley Cup winner Francesco Guardi (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), trained by Chris Waller, is out of a half-sister to the mighty Treve so the Haras du Quesnay offerings will hold particular interest to the Australasian market.
