Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
On Saturday, we kick off in New Zealand as Langmore (NZ) (Almanzor {Fr}) looks to get off the mark at the second time of asking at Trentham. We then head to the Gold Coast where Busting (Spirit Of Boom) attempts to break the ice at the first attempt.
Trentham, Race 4, 12.10pm AEDT (2.10pm local), G2 Challenge S., NZ$140,000, 1100m
Langmore (NZ), 2-year-old filly (Almanzor {Fr} x Ruthless Lady {NZ} {Keeper})
Having finished second her first start, this John Bary-trained filly will be hoping it’s second time lucky when she lines up on Saturday. She will be ridden from barrier two with Lisa Allpress booked to take the ride.
Purchased by her trainer for NZ$40,000 at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Weanling Sale in 2021, the daughter of Almanzor (Fr) is out of the Listed-placed Keeper mare Ruthless Lady (NZ) and her three winners are headed by Group 3 scorer Ruthless Dame (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}).

Ruthless Lady herself is a daughter of Group 2 winner Lady Dehere (NZ) (Dehere {USA}) and she is also the dam of dual Group 2 scorer Oracy (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}) and stakes winner The Lady (NZ) (Stravinsky {USA}).
Further back this is the same family as multiple Group 1 winner Sea Siren (Fastnet Rock) and Group 2 winner turned sire Oratorio (Ire).
Gold Coast, Race 4, 3.09pm AEDT (2.09pm local), ABC Caring For Customers QTIS 3YO Mdn Plate, $26,000, 1100m
Busting, 3-year-old gelding (Spirit Of Boom x Tarffeite {Snitzel})
The Tony Gollan-trained Busting will make his debut at the Gold Coast on Saturday. Georgina Cartwright has been booked to take the ride and they will break from barrier three.
The gelding was purchased by his trainer and John Foote Bloodstock (FBAA) for $150,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2021 and he is out of unraced Snitzel mare Tarffeite, who is herself a half-sister to G2 Queensland Guineas winner Express Air (Piccolo {GB}), the dam of Listed winner Simply Fly (Spirit Of Boom).

Further afield this is the same family as Miss Argyle (Iglesia) and she in turn produced multiple Group 1 winner Incentivise (Shamus Award), Group 3 scorer Ardrossan (Redoute’s Choice) and dual stakes winner Bergerac (Drumbeats) and Cheyenne Warrior (Not A Single Doubt).
