Ascot: G1 Northerly S., $1,500,000, 1800m
She is some filly! Taking on the older, more experienced horses in one of Perth's biggest races, Amelia's Jewel (Siyouni {Fr}) finished off strongly to record the sixth win of her seven-start career.
Tackling Group 1 company for the first time, Amelia's Jewel became her Haras de Bonneval-based sire's eighth Group 1 winner and is one of his 67 stakes winners overall.
A homebred for the Walsh family's Amelia Park, she is one of the three Australian stakes winners from just 24 local runners for Siyouni (Fr).
She is the first foal for the stakes-placed import Bumbasina (Ire) (Canford Cliffs {Ire}), half-sister to the G2 Pearl S. winner Epona Plays (Ire) (Australia {GB}) and the G3 Athasi S. winner Dolce Strega (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}).
Unfortunately failing to get in foal in 2020 and 2021, Bumbasina has a Blue Point (Ire) yearling colt whilst her Merchant Navy 2-year-old True Heroes - a $160,000 Magic Millions Perth purchase for Yenrise Pty Ltd - has been out of the placings in a couple of trials for the Sean and Jake Casey stable.
Bumbasina (who was purchased for 75,000gns (AU$142,500) by Louis Le Metayer on behalf of Peter Walsh at the 2018 Tattersalls July Sale) made her way to France earlier this year, again in foal (with a colt) to Siyouni with the plans being for her to revisit him again next season.
A descendant of the legendary matriarch Chelandry (GB) (Goldfinch {GB}), Amelia's Jewel is by a stallion out of a mare bred on the same Busted (GB)/Danehill (USA) cross.
Listed Jungle Dawn Classic, $125,000, 1400m
Last year's Listed Burgess Queen S. winner Buzzoom (Safeguard) was back to her best with this dominant performance - recording the sixth win of her 20-start career.
Bred by B Duncan, she is the sole stakes winner for her Mogumber Park-based sire, a dual Group 3-winning son of Exceed And Excel.
She is one of the four winners produced by the Group 3-placed, multiple city winner Xaar Boom (Xaar {GB}), also dam of the metropolitan winners Boomtastic (Sessions) and Queenship (Sessions).
Missing last year having foaled a Sessions colt in August 2021 (her previous named foal being the yet to race 3-year-old Boosted - a Simon Miller-trained full sister to Buzzoom), Xaar Boom is a half-sister to fellow Group 3 placegetter Mendicity (Blackfriars) and the metropolitan winners True Storm (Hurricane Sky) and Snuglet (Scenic {Ire}).
Purchased by Morton Racing for $80,000 from the Forest View draft at the 2020 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, Buzzoom can count amongst her relations the durable triple Group 2 winner Bradson (Serheed {USA}), winner of 15 races.
Trentham: G1 Captain Cook S., NZ$300,000, 1600m
It was a deserved big-race win for Prise de Fer (NZ) (Savabeel) at his 14th Group 1 level attempt. And an exciting one too as he swung widest turning - charging to the line.
That's 11 wins from 39 starts for the courageous galloper, one of his Waikato Stud-based, high-achieving sire's 127 stakes winners - his 28th Group 1 winner. Impressive statistics - 22 per cent of Savabeel's stakes winners being Group 1 winners!
Bred by Raffles Dancers and purchased by Te Akau for NZ$100,000 at the 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale, Pris de Fer is one of the five winners produced by the unraced Foil (Snippets), also dam of the G2 Sapphire S. winner Belong To Many (Belong To Me {USA}) whose son Native Soldier (Sepoy) - now at stud in Europe - won two Group 3 races.
Now retired, Foil - a descendant of the influential Cinna (GB) (Polymelus {GB}) - is a half-sister to the G1 The Goodwood H. winner Sword (Switch In Time {Ire}).
Foil has a yet to be named Sacred Falls (NZ) daughter with her most recent foal being the talented Kingston Flyer (NZ) (Sacred Falls {NZ}) who has raced five times (June last year the most recent outing) for the Donna Beck stable - winning his last three.
G2 Challenge S., NZ$140,000, 1100m
Impendabelle (Impending) remained unbeaten with this determined performance, refusing to lie down when challenged over the final stages.
Bred in Australia by Monovale Holdings, she is the first stakes winner for her Darley Victoria-based sire, a dual Group 1-winning son of Lonhro.
And she is the second stakes winner for the Listed Ottawa S. winner Applegate (Exceed And Excel) whose daughter Cloudy (Frosted {USA}) won the G3 SAJC Breeders' S. and the Listed Dequetteville S.
Now in New Zealand where she was served last spring by Contributer (Ire), Applegate foaled a So You Think (NZ) filly last year with her previous foal, Godolphin's Escutcheon (Ribchester {Ire}) was second in a Randwick trial in late September.
Applegate is a half-sister to the G3 Summer Cup and Listed Dulcify H. winner Yulalona (Dubai Destination {USA}) out of a daughter of the American Group 1 winner Link River (USA) (Gone West {USA}).
Boasting crosses of the influential mares Natalma (USA) (Native Dancer {USA}) and Flower Bowl (USA) (Alibhai {GB}), Impendabelle was sold by Hallmark Stud to Brewers Bloodstock for NZ$80,000 at this year's New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale.
Doomben: G3 George Moore S., $200,000, 1200m
Getting to the lead with 100 metres to go and winning with a bit in hand, Garibaldi (I Am Invincible) was tough recording his second stakes-level success on the back of his Listed Goldmarket H. victory at the Gold Coast in August.
One of the 86 stakes winners for his Yarraman Park-based reigning Champion Sire, Garibaldi was bred by the Alchin family and purchased by Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA), Gollan Racing and Aquis for $475,000 from the Carramar Park draft at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
He is the fourth foal for the Newcastle maiden winner Sonnenblume (Exceed And Excel) who has also produced the city winners Consider It Done (Manhattan Rain) and Seeblume (Sebring).
Missing last year having foaled a Zousain colt, Sonnenblume has a 2-year-old filly - Giliana (Capitalist) in the Gollan stable. Sonneblume is a daughter of the record breaking G1 Coolmore Classic winner Shindig (NZ) (Straight Strike {USA}) whose seven foals all won including the G1 CF Orr S. winner Shinzig and the dual Listed winner Strada.
Shindig is also ancestress of the stakes winners Flying Crazy (Flying Artie), Hawkshot (Fiorente {Ire}), Power Scheme (Fiorente {Ire}), Money Matters (Canford Cliffs {Ire}), Arkansaw Kid (Harry Angel {Ire}) and Alfolk (Lonhro).
Listed Mode S., $150,000, 1200m
In a driving finish it was Stroll (Snitzel) able to prevail by a bare margin from the short-priced favourite - the previously unbeaten Chinny Boom (Spirit Of Boom).
Now a dual stakes winner - having also taken out the Listed Bill Carter S. in early June, Stroll was a $450,000 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast purchase for Proven Thoroughbreds and O'Dea Hoysted Racing from the Baramul Stud draft of her breeder Gerry Harvey.
The winner of three of her six starts, Stroll is one of her Arrowfield Stud-based, four-time Champion Sire's 130 stakes winners and one of his four (from just 11 runners - 10 winners) out of mares by Street Cry (Ire).
She is the first foal produced by the Harvey-bred Gosford maiden winer Walk The Streets whose dual Listed-winning dam Kakakakatie (Zeditave) was also bred by Harvey.
Served last spring by Zoustar having produced a colt by that stallion (and before that a full sister to Stroll), Walk The Streets is a half-sister to the stakes-placed city winners Sebrakate (Sebring) and Quattro Katie (Zoustar).
Stroll's fourth dam is the Listed Belle of the Turf S. winner St Klaire (Bletchingly) who was so well-represented by three Group 1 winners - Bonanova (NZ), Fraternity (NZ) and Telesto (NZ) - all by Star Way (GB).
Hailing from the family of the great mare Eight Carat (GB) (Pieces Of Eight {Ire}), St Klaire is also ancestress of the stakes winners Extra Choice (Extreme Choice), Prima Nova (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), Bonaichi (Fusaichi Pegasus {USA}), Brooklyn Bay (NZ) (Sufficient {NZ}), Twoznotenough (NZ) (Sakhee's Secret {GB}), Five To Midnight (NZ) (Domesday), Saint Encosta (Encosta De Lago), Sheer Talent and Kittens (Redoute's Choice).
Pukekohe Park: G3 Bonecrusher S., NZ$100,000, 1400m
Sent out favourite on the back of his game G3 Counties Bowl first-up placing, Sacred Satono (NZ) (Satono Aladdin {Jpn}) again showed plenty of heart - taking the inside run only to be clearly headed before fighting back.
The second stakes winner for his Rich Hill Stud-based shuttling sire (the exciting Grand Impact {NZ} the other), Sacred Satono was bred by Archer Equine Investments and sold through the Rich Hill 2021 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Book 2 draft to Wallace Thoroughbreds for NZ$34,000.
He is one of the five winners produced by the now retired multiple city winner Belle Joie (NZ) (Mellifont {USA}), also dam of the Group 3-placed Simbaah (NZ) (Pentire {GB}).
Belle Joie - who has yet to be named progeny by Ace High (filly) and Shocking (colt) coming through - is a half-sister to the wonderful galloper Mufhasa (NZ) (Pentire {GB}) who was twice crowned New Zealand Horse of the Year with his 10 successes at Group 1 level.
And her half-sister Keepa Cheval (NZ) (Keeper) has also done a good job at stud - producing the triple Group 1 winner Bostonian (NZ) (Jimmy Choux {NZ}).
Pakenham: Listed Pakenham Cup, $300,000, 2500m
Racing in great heart over staying trips, the relatively lightly raced Kissinger (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}) is in career best form at the age of seven with this win - his first at stakes level - one of his easiest.
Bred by the late Peter Setchell, Kissinger was purchased by his original trainer Nigel Tiley (for whom he won two of three starts before heading to Australia) for NZ$52,500 from the Millfield Stud draft at the 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale.
The 40th stakes winner for his much-missed sire, Kissinger is the fourth foal and first winner for the Gawler maiden winner Berlin Belle (NZ) (Black Minnaloushe {USA}) whose G2 Dulcie S.-winning dam Chrisitiana Belle (NZ) (Sackford {USA}) produced another eight winners including the G3 Gold Trail S. winner Zino Belle (NZ) (Success Express {USA}) - dam of the Listed Pegasus S. winner Silver Eclipse (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}).
Christiana Belle's dam is the triple Group-winning, G1 Queensland Oaks runner-up Finezza Belle (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}) whose stakes-placed dam Heidi Belle (NZ) (Copenhagen {GB}) is ancestress of another seven stakes winners including the G1 Coolmore Classic winner Plucky Belle (Mossman).
The 23rd stakes winner line-bred to Green Dancer (USA) (the first by Tavistock {NZ}), Kissinger is a member of one of New Zealand's finest families - that has produced so many classy 'Belle' horses.
