Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
We kick off on Sunday at the Sunshine Coast where Jack’s Boom (Spirit Of Boom) attempts to make the perfect start to her career, while Peruno (Pierro) lines up for the first time at Mornington.

Jack’s Boom, 2-year-old filly (Spirit Of Boom x Lots Of Success {Iglesia})
This daughter of Spirit Of Boom will make her debut at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday for trainer Danny Bougoure. The 2-year-old filly will be ridden by Ben Thompson from barrier three.
Purchased by Brent Wilkinson for $100,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale last year, Jack’s Boom is out of the seven-time-winning Iglesia mare Lots Of Success and she has produced four winners to date.

Lots Of Success herself is a half-sister to five-time winner McFly (Perugino {USA}), the dam of Group 3 winner Chapter And Verse (Rothesay), while she is also a half-sibling to Passara (Tsuimai) and she in turn produced G3 Vo Rogue Plate winner Boomsara (Spirit Of Boom).
Mornington, Race 4, 2.50pm AEDT, Mercedes Benz Mornington Mdn Plate, $37,500, 1200m
Peruno, 3-year-old gelding (Pierro x Next The Universe {Mossman})
The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Peruno will attempt to get off the mark at the first time of asking when he lines up at Mornington on Sunday.
The son of Coolmore’s Pierro was bought by First Light Racing, Ciaron Maher Bloodstock and Paul Willetts for $80,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2021 and he is out of the Group 3-placed mare Next The Universe (Mossman) and her three foals to race have all been winners.

Next The Universe herself is a half-sister to Listed-placed mare Lator Gator (More Than Ready {USA}) and she is the dam of MVRC William Crockett S. winner Wee Nessy (Snitzel).
Further afield this is the same family as dual G2 Challenge S. winner Light Up The World (Rory's Jester), the dam of Group 3 winner World Peace (Danehill {USA}) and she produced fellow Group 3 scorer Chivalry (Street Cry {Ire}).
The gelding will break from barrier three with Ben Melham booked to take the ride.
