Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Both of our Looking Ahead selections come from Rosehill on Saturday, kicking off with the Coolmore Stud-raced Shinzo (Snitzel), who makes his debut in the G3 Canonbury S. and then a few races later, Mumbai Muse (Zoustar) will hope to get her career off to the perfect start in the G3 Widden S.
Rosehill, Race 2, 12.55pm AEDT, G3 Canonbury S., $200,000, 1100m
Shinzo, 2-year-old colt (Snitzel x Samaready {More Than Ready {USA}})
This well-bred colt makes his highly anticipated debut in the G3 Canonbury S. at Rosehill on Saturday, and he will break from barrier three with Brenton Avdulla booked to take the ride.
Bred by Coolmore Stud and trained by Chris Waller, the son of Snitzel is out of the dual Group 1-winning More Than Ready (USA) mare Samaready - the dam of this colt’s sister Exhilarates (Sntizel), whose six career wins were headed by a victory in the G3 Quezette S. and the R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

In 2020, Coolmore purchased Samaready for $1.8 million from Vinery Stud at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale and Shinzo is the first foal bred by the operation out of the mare.
Samaready herself is out of dual winner Samar (Secret Savings {USA}), making her a half-sister to G2 WATC Karrakatta Plate winner Night War (General Nediym).
Rosehill, Race 5, 2.40pm AEDT, G3 Widden S., $200,000, 1100m
Mumbai Muse, 2-year-old filly (Zoustar x Mumbai Rock {Fastnet Rock})
The Michael Freedman-trained Mumbai Muse will make her career debut in the G3 Widden S. at Rosehill on Saturday and she will jump from barrier 10 with Brett Prebble booked to take the ride.
The daughter of Zoustar was bought by her trainer and Blue Sky Bloodstock’s (FBAA) Julian Blaxland for $525,000 at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the Coolmore Stud draft.

The filly is out of the winning Fastnet Rock mare Mumbai Rock, making her a half-sister to Japanese Listed winner Jazz Etude (I Am Invincible) and stakes-placed duo Mumbai Jewel (I Am Invincible) and Splendoronthegrass (So You Think {NZ}).
Being out a daughter of Fastnet Rock means the filly is bred on the same cross as 23 winners including three stakes winners and they are headed by Group 1-winning filly Zougotcha and Group 3 scorer Platinum Jubilee.
Looking Back
