Ahead of the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, we look at three yearlings who have had substantial pedigree updates over the past couple of months.

The catalogue for the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale was released on November 21, 2022, and, since then, a host of yearlings that will be offered at Riverside Stables have had their pedigrees enhanced, which is important information for vendors and buyers alike.

Lot 311 – Dundeel (NZ) x Catalonia (Flying Spur), filly – on account of Tyreel Stud

Lot 311, by Dundeel (NZ), was already a half-sister to the R. Listed Inglis Banner winner Espaaniyah (I Am Invincible). However, since the catalogue release late last year, another half-sister in Lalaguna (I Am Invincible) has been knocking on the door of a good win. Lalaguna is with Ciaron Maher and David Eustace and, in her last two starts, she’s been second and third in Warwick Farm and Canterbury races.

The first dam on this page is the stakes-placed Catalonia (Flying Spur), who is a half-sister to the Group 3 winner Jorda (Exceed And Excel). Jorda was also a winner of the Listed Gimcrack S. and third in two Group 3 events. Catalonia is also a half-sister to the dual Group 3-placed filly Pursuits (Lonhro).

Further along, the third line of this page features the Group 2 winner Detours (Ad Valorem {USA}) and her Group 3-winning half-brother Aichi (Strategic). This line of the family is also that of the dual Group 1 winner She’s Extreme (Extreme Choice).

Lot 311 is one of eight yearlings consigned by Tyreel Stud to Riverside this week. She is also one of 19 by Dundeel in the catalogue.

Lot 506 – Dundeel (NZ) x Jemison (Commands), colt – on account of Arrowfield Stud

This colt is already well-related as a half-brother to Contentment (Hussonet {USA}), who is a very smart Hong Kong performer. He has won the G1 HKJC Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup and G1 Champions Mile and is also Group 1 placed.

At the time of catalogue release, Lot 506’s 2-year-old half-brother, Godzilla (Shalaa {Ire}), didn’t even factor in the catalogue, but since then the Snowden-trained colt has been third on debut behind The Novelist (Written By) in the G3 BJ McLachlan S. at Doomben. Additionally, another Shalaa (Ire) half-brother in Cheerful Legend has been a Newcastle winner in mid-January and second in a Midway at Rosehill on January 28.

This page is the extended family of the Champion 2-Year-Old Colt Align (Night Shift {USA}), who won the G1 AJC Sires’ Produce S. and was second in Catbird’s Golden Slipper in 1999.

Lot 506 is among 46 yearlings consigned to this sale by Arrowfield Stud and one of the 19 by Dundeel (NZ).

Lot 708 – Winning Rupert x Stage Beauty (Desert Prince {Ire}), colt – on account of Riversdale/Ashleigh Thoroughbreds

This colt is from the Desert Prince (Ire) mare Stage Beauty, who is a half-sister to the G2 Champagne S. winner I Am A Ripper (Mukaddamah {USA}), and also a half-sister to the dam of the G3 Blue Diamond Preview (Colts and Geldings) winner Murphy’s Blu Boy (Blu Tusmani {USA}).

Lot 708, himself, is a half-brother to the stakes-placed Fox Fighter (Foxwedge), who had been third in the Listed Starlight S. at the time of catalogue release. Since then, Fox Fighter, who is trained at Rosehill by David Payne, was fourth in the Listed Razor Sharp S. behind Sky Command (Deep Field).

This is a good family through the first two dams. Stage Beauty has had seven foals to race and six have been winners. Further along, through the second dam Ann Juliet (Bletchingly), it’s the family of the Group-winning siblings Stampede (High Chaparral {Ire}), Thinkin’ Big (High Chaparral {Ire}) and Just Thinkin’ (So You Think {NZ}).

Lot 708 is one of the 22 yearlings consigned to this sale by the Riversdale/Ashleigh Thoroughbreds partnership. He is the only one in the draft by Winning Rupert and one of just two in the sale by the sire.
