Each day of the sale, TDN AusNZ will find a 'value buy', where an opportunity has been spotted - even in this hot sale market.
The first crop of Blue Point’s (Ire) yearlings in Australasia have been selling incredibly well.
At last month’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, he was the leading first-season sire by average and seventh by average overall.

Blue Point had 16 yearlings gross $6,050,000 on the Gold Coast at an average of $378,125 and Lot 690 – a colt from Bumbasina (Ire) (Canford Cliffs {Ire}) offered by Segenhoe Stud – realised $900,000.
So, $200,000 for a yearling colt by the Darley shuttler from a stakes-winning mare appears good shopping.
Prominent bloodstock agent Peter Ford, in partnership with trainers Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock, bought the colt (Lot 365) from the Kitchwin Hills draft and he is from the Listed victress Deja Blue (Denman).

“He was a beautifully balanced colt and true to his genetics, how we mated him,” Ford told TDN AusNZ.
“And he is sharp, a very sharp colt.
“He was wonderfully prepared by Kitchwin Hills.
“You can’t be negative about any stallion until you see their progeny and once I saw his, compared to a lot of the other first-season sires, I thought he was the one.

“Shamardal blood is proven here; they seem to have more substance to them, which will suit our conditions.
“Robbie and I couldn’t be happier.”

Deja Blue won seven of her 27 starts and close to $300,000 in prizemoney.

“She won a Listed race at Geelong and was a good mare, she was very fast. On her day, she was bloody hard to beat,” said Ford, who purchased Helsinge (Desert Sun {GB}) - the dam of Group 1 stars Black Caviar (Bel Esprit) and All Too Hard - as an unraced 3-year-old for $115,000.
“The family improved after we bought her and it made her into a valuable broodmare prospect.
“This is the second Blue Point we have bought and both of them are from mares of clients I have helped.
“This one is Gary Hutchins’. Robbie and I bought Deja Blue as a yearling and Gary raced her with some friends, and then bought her outright. We identified Deja Blue as a yearling and we bought her (for $60,000) from the Phoenix Broodmare Farm draft (at the 2014 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale).
“We set up a plan to mate her and picked out Blue Point as the one for her and now we’ve gone full-circle and bought the progeny.”

The second dam, Miss Chaski (USA) (Gone West {USA}), was a winner at two and is a sister to the Listed winner and Group 2 placegetter Pearl Grey (GB), a three-quarter sister to the Group 3 scorer Time Prisoner (USA) (Elusive Quality {USA}) and a half-sister to the Listed winner Zennor (USA) (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}).
