The first filly since 2004 (Regimental Gal by General Nediym) to win this prestigious dash down the Flemington straight, Coolangatta (Written Tycoon) was brilliant recording the fifth win of her eight start career.
Having her first run since the spring, last year's G1 Moir S. winner is one of her Yulong-based Australian Champion Sire's 52 stakes winners and 12 Group 1 winners.
Bred by Highclere Stud in Australia and purchased by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock for $280,000 from the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft of Milburn Creek, she is the second foal for the lightly raced mare Piping Hot (More Than Ready {USA}) who, from just four starts, won two races in Sydney.
Her first foal is the dual city winner Snitzonfire (Snitzel) (a $425,000 Magic Millions graduate) whilst her third is the yet to race Paradise Point (Dundeel {NZ}) who is a Cranbourne jump-out winner for the Lloyd Kennewell stable.
Served last spring by I Am Invincible after foaling a full sister to Coolangatta, Piping Hot is a daughter of the G2 Moonee Valley Oaks winner Ribe (Danehill {USA}) whose other seven winners include the G1 Blue Diamond S. winner Reaan (Hussonet {USA}). Ribe’s grandam is the G3 Colin Stephen H. winner Pontiac Lass (NZ) (Pevero {Ire}).
With his strong Mumtaz Mahal (GB) (The Tetrarch {GB}) influence, Written Tycoon picks up well with further strains and it is interesting to note that Coolangatta’s third damsire, Kaapstad (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}), is a descendant.
G3 Vanity S., $200,000, 1400m
Wollombi (Extreme Choice) faced a leap in grade contesting this Group 3 but she was again too strong, making it three wins in a row on a couple of Warwick Farm benchmark successes.
The ninth stakes winner (from just 61 runners) for her remarkable Newgate Farm-based sire, Wollombi was bred by Kingstar Farm and sold by them to Snowden Racing for $200,000 at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
She is the first foal produced by the city-placed Coffs Harbour maiden winner Hazlebrook (Hinchinbrook) whose half-sister, Everage (Zizou), won the Listed Keith Mackay H.
Served last spring by Tiger Of Malay after previously missing to Extreme Choice, Hazlebrook also has yet to be named colts by Winning Rupert and Tassort.
Hailing from the family of the high-class race and broodmare Bold Promise (Luskin Star), Wollombi boasts a fascinating pedigree - her dam bred on a close 3 X 2 cross of Snippets whilst her grandsire Not A Single Doubt is closely related to that stallion, providing for a 4 X 5 X 5 cross of the terrific mare Easy Date (Grand Chaudiere {Can}).
She is also 4 X 4 Danehill (USA) and 4 X 4 Rory's Jester - being the third stakes winner line-bred to that speedy chestnut.
G3 Tony Bourke Memorial S., $200,000, 1400m
Always in control as a short-priced favourite, Annavisto (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}) did a great job saluting at her first run since last winter.
The winner of seven of her 17 starts including the 2021 Listed Bendigo Guineas and last year's G3 Frances Tressady S., Annavisto was bred by Nearco Stud Limited. One of her Westbury Stud-based sire's 20 stakes winners, she is a daughter of the dual Listed winner Avisto (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}).
Also dam of the Hong Kong winner Happy Jai Jai (NZ) (Savabeel), she was due to foal last spring (no Stud Book return recorded as yet) to Vadamos (Fr)) having previously produced yet to be named colts by Ocean Park (NZ) and Almanzor (Fr).
Avisto is out of the stakes-placed Miraculous Miss (Exceed And Excel) whose son Celtic Tiger (NZ) (O'Reilly {NZ}) won the Listed Morphettville Guineas. Her stakes-placed grandam Galway Lass (NZ) (Rhythm {USA}) is a half-sister to the Listed Anzac Day S. winner Outdo (Exceed And Excel).
Annavisto is bred on a 3 X 4 cross of Sadler's Wells (USA) - damsire of Reliable Man (GB) and grandsire of Tavistock (NZ).
G3 CS Hayes S., $200,000, 1400m
The second stakes winner for the day for his Arrowfield Stud-based sire, Elliptical (Dundeel {NZ}) was game at his first outing since the spring - a deserved stakes winner on the back of his Group 1 placing in the Caulfield Guineas and the Spring Champion S.
His sire's 22nd stakes winner, Elliptical was bred by Phoenix Broodmare Farm and sold by them as a weanling for $200,000 at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Sale. He was again put through the ring at the 2021 Magic Millions - sold by Newgate Farm to Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA), Anthony Freedman Racing and Blue Sky Bloodstock (FBAA) for $380,000.
His dam is the winner Marquise Da Rossa (Testa Rossa), daughter of the city winner Make My Dane (Danehill {USA}) who did a good job producing eight winners including the city winner Danish Princess (Dolphin Street {Fr}) who has been represented by two stakes placegetters - Lordag (Any Given Saturday {USA}) and Singularity (Not A Single Doubt).
Hailing from the family of the G1 Golden Slipper hero Marauding (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}), Marquise Da Rossa was served last spring by So You Think (NZ) having foaled a filly by him in late August.

The second stakes winner for the day for his Coolmore Stud-based sire, Maharba (Pride Of Dubai) looked to have a bit in hand recording this smart win at just his second start - and his first since November.
Bred by Newhaven Park Stud, the 17th Pride Of Dubai stakes winner is the seventh winner for the Listed Keith Mackay H. winner Blizzardly (More Than Ready {USA}) whose son Unencumbered won the G3 BJ McLachlan S. and the R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
Also dam of the city winner Stormy Rock (Fastnet Rock), Blizzardly is out of a half-sister to the dam of the Listed Sale Cup winner First Course (Snitzel).
Served last spring by Churchill (Ire) having missed to Merchant Navy the previous season, Blizzardly has a yearling colt by Xtravagant (NZ).

Bred by S Gillard, he was sold for $200,000 by Yarraman Park Stud at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale - purchased by Proven Thoroughbreds and Steve O'Dea.
One of the 131 stakes winners for his Arrowfield Stud-based Champion Sire, Scallopini is a half-brother to Shades Of Rose (Rubick), last spring's G2 Sheraco S. winner.

Gutsy up along the inside as the hot favourite Aft Cabin (Astern) tired after working in running, Osipenko (Pierro) was a determined winner - doing a good job claiming some smart ones at just his sixth start.
Third in last year's G1 Caulfield Guineas, Osipenko has always shown plenty of talent.
Bred by Kevin Hickman, he was sold by Valachi Downs to Kaha and Chris Waller Racing for NZ$160,000 at the 2021 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale.
