Newgate Farm’s fledgling sire Russian Revolution chalked up his seventh juvenile winner of the season on Thursday night, with the Lindsay Park-trained Coast Princess breaking through at the second time of asking.
Ridden by Michael Dee, Coast Princess was too strong for the well-fancied duo Pantelone (Street Boss {USA}) and Brave Mead (Brave Smash {Jpn}) in Race 2 at Pakenham - a 1200-metre maiden.
Last season’s Champion First Season Sire in Australia, Russian Revolution leads the Second Season Sires’ table and is seventh in the Leading 2YO Sires’ premiership. The stallion has had two juvenile stakes winners this campaign - Red Resistance, who took out the G3 Canonbury S. and the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (Colts and Geldings) scorer The Instructor, who is well-fancied in Saturday’s G1 Blue Diamond S. at Sandown-Lakeside.
Bred by Sledmere Stud’s Catriona Murphy, who has retained a share in the filly, Coast Princess was bought by Lindsay Park Racing for $140,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The filly is from the stakes performer Spirited Princess (Universal Ruler), who is a half-sister to the Listed victor Fire Thunderbolt (California Dane). Coast Princess’ third dam is the winning Runnett (GB) mare Endearing (Ire), who is a half-sister to the stakes scorer Shayzari (Ire) (Nishapour {Fr}).

Coast Princess races for an all-ladies’ group of owners that includes Lindsay Park’s public relations consultant Jenny McAlpine, and the filly races in the silks of former stable stars Nicconi, Niconero (Danzero) and Nicola Lass (Scenic {Ire}).
McAlpine was rapt to see the filly break through.
“It’s very exciting for the girls. This filly has got a lot of girls I’ve known for a long time. They’re all loyal supporters and friends,” McAlpine told TDN AusNZ.
“It’s great for Catriona Murphy, who bred the filly.
“The ladies’ syndicates are doing well and they love them. We’ve had Arkansaw Kid, Joseylin, Croatian Belle, Tacito and now Coast Princess.”
McAlpine spoke glowingly of Russian Revolution, saying the stallion is a star on the rise.
“We pinpointed him last year as a hot, young sire, so we were very quite happy to get a Russian Revolution last year,” McAlpine said.

“We played the right card early in the piece with a Magic Millions buy.”
Winning rider, Dee, found great merit in the filly’s performance, telling Racing.com: “We drew awkward (barrier 10), so we just had to take our medicine and keep her relaxed and happy and it was a good effort in the end.”
Coast Princess debuted in a Sale maiden (1103 metres) on February 5, finishing third behind the Team Freedman-trained Tiz Enuf (Rich Enuff), who looks to have plenty of talent.
“She got a little bit warm, but has taken that race experience from Sale, where she ran well. She’s certainly improved,” Dee added.
