Each day of the 2023 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, TDN AusNZ will find a ‘value buy’, an opportunity that has been spotted even in this hot sale market. In this edition, we look at Lot 545.
Lot 545 – Capitalist x Lucinda’s Moon (USA) (Malibu Moon {USA}) (filly) - $100,000
Buyer: Slade Bloodstock Pty Ltd
Vendor: Supreme Thoroughbreds
Bloodstock agent Rob Slade felt he had captured one that “flew under the radar” when he purchased Lot 545.
The filly is a daughter of Capitalist, one of the best sons of one of Victoria's premier stallions in Written Tycoon.

Retired to Henry Field's Newgate Farm, Capitalist is throwing his precocity into his progeny. A sire of nine individual stakes winners, his popularity continues to grow on and off the track.
The progeny of Capitalist has averaged $190,200 across Australian sales so far in 2023. In contrast, his progeny has averaged $200,000 at the 2023 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale alone.
“Capitalist is doing a terrific job,” Slade told TDN AusNZ. “His fillies have great residual value. I thought she was a quality filly. She walked well, had a terrific hindquarter on her, was correct and had a great shoulder. To spend $100,000 on a Capitalist filly is great value.”

Lot 545 is the fourth foal from the unraced Malibu Moon (USA) mare Lucinda's Moon (USA). Malibu Moon is a son of the Lane's End Farm legend A.P. Indy (USA).
The late Malibu Moon rose to prominence from his base at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky and is best remembered for siring the 2013 G1 Kentucky Derby winner Orb (USA).
Lucinda's Moon is a full sister to the G3 Keeneland Jessamine S. winner Moonwalk (USA) (Malibu Moon {USA}). Furthermore, this is the family of G1 Del Mar Matriarch S. winner Stormy Lucy (USA) (Stormy Atlantic {USA}) and G2 Santa Anita S. winner Big Runner (USA) (Stormy Atlantic {USA}).

Slade imagines the filly “will be forward, up-and-running like the typical Capitalist”.
“But I think she has a fair bit of improvement physically, but I'll let the horse tell the story,” he said.
