Listed South West Cup, $125,000, 2200m

Winning like the odds-on favourite he was, Casino Seventeen (Casino Prince) raced clear of his rivals over the final stages - a deserved success off his game Listed Bunbury Cup showing at his previous outing.

Successful at seven of his 28 starts, Casino Seventeen was bred by G Briscoe, making his way through the sales ring on two occasions - sold by Widden Stud to J Hardy for $9000 at the 2010 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and by Clare Park Thoroughbreds to Kennewell Racing for $45,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs In Training Sale.

Winning four races in South Australia and another three in Western Australia, he is the 23rd stakes winner Vinery Stud-based, G1 Chipping Norton S.-winning sire and his second for the weekend with Bandersnatch taking out Saturday's G3 Doncaster Prelude.

Casino Seventeen is one of the first three foals to race (all are winners) for Tikal (Denman) who at her only start finished off nicely for a Kensington fourth off a wide run from the outside gate.

Also dam of the Rosehill winner Leg Work (Shamus Award) and the city-placed winner Petulant (Starspangledbanner), Tikal has a yet to race 2-year-old Sooboog filly (Plaza) in the Hawkes stable.

Served last spring by Spirit Of Boom having missed the previous season, she also has a Calyx (GB) yearling filly.

Tikal is out of the stakes placed Flemington winner Lanquin (Last Tycoon {Ire}) whose durable son Reprobate (Reset) won 15 races. G1 BTC Cup winner Famous Seamus (NZ) (Elusive City {USA}) hails from this family as do the Group winners Ferragamo (Success Express {USA}) and Ahdashim (NZ) (Elusive City {USA}).

Casino Seventeen is bred on a 3 X 3 cross of Last Tycoon (Ire) and is the 10th stakes winner line-bred to him.
