Ascot: G3 Roma Cup, $200,000, 1100m
Picking up where she left off in the spring, Amelia's Jewel (Siyouni {Fr}) outclassed her rivals as she raced away to her seventh win from eight starts.
The Quokka-bound 3-year-old - a homebred for the Walsh family's Amelia Park - has won exclusively at stakes level.
One of her Haras de Bonneval-based sire's 68 stakes winners, she is the first foal for the stakes-placed import Bumbasina (Ire) (Canford Cliffs {Ire}), half-sister to the G2 Pearl S. winner Epona Plays (Ire) (Australia {GB}) and the G3 Athasi S. winner Dolce Strega (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}).
Unfortunately, failing to get in foal in 2020 and 2021, Bumbasina has a Blue Point (Ire) yearling colt whilst her Merchant Navy 2-year-old True Heroes - a $160,000 Magic Millions Perth purchase for Yenrise Pty Ltd - has been out of the placings in a couple of trials for the Sean and Jake Casey stable.
Bumbasina (who was purchased for 75,000gns {AU$145,300}) by Louis Le Metayer on behalf of Peter Welsh at the 2018 Tattersalls July Sale) made her way to France last year - revisiting Siyouni (Fr) with plans for further visits.
A descendant of the legendary matriarch Chelandry (GB) (Goldfinch {GB}), Amelia's Jewel is by a stallion out of a mare bred on the same Busted (GB)/Danehill (USA) cross.
G3 Gimcrack S., $150,000, 1100m
Diving late to secure an exciting victory, Live To Tell (Territories {Ire}) made it two stakes races in a row on the back of her Listed Supremacy S. success.
Bred by Bernie Howlett (also breeder of the Group 1 galloper Brazen Beau) and sold by Fernrigg Farm to Simon Miller Racing for $100,000 at the 2021 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale, Live To Tell is the one of the nine stakes winners for her former shuttling sire.
She is the first foal for the placed Pellicle (Sepoy) who was not served last spring after foaling her third foal, an Impending colt. Her second is a yearling colt by Harry Angel (Ire).
Pellicle's city-placed, winning dam Seeking Susan (Flying Spur) is a half-sister to the four-time Group 1 winner Divine Madonna (Hurricane Sky) (dam of the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic winner Maternal by Street Cry {Ire}) and the G3 Standish H. winner Blessum (Umatilla {NZ}).
Runner-up Super Smink (Super One) is also a member of the Invincible Spirit (Ire) sireline.
Listed Perth S., $150,000, 1100m
It is no mean feat to win a Listed race at debut but that is just what Ripcord (Written By) did, racing a bit greenly but finding the line well off the back of a big trial victory at Belmont.
Bred by Phoenix Broodmare Farm (also breeders of Elliptical by Dundeel {NZ}) who ran a nice sixth in the G1 ATC Derby), Ripcord was sold by Barador Stud to trainer Luke Fernie for $40,000 at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale.
He is the 17th runner for his Widden Stud-based, G1 Blue Diamond S.-winning sire and his second stakes winner. He has also sired a couple of stakes placegetters and it is well worth noting that three of his first four black-type performers are out of Redoute's Choice-line mares.
Which is very interesting as Written By is bred on a 6 X 6 cross of the terrific mare Best In Show (USA) (Traffic Judge {USA}) via her descendants Try My Best (USA) and Umatilla (NZ) with the latter's dam Dancing Show (USA) (Nijinsky II {Can}) being Redoute's Choice's grandam.
Also dam of the last-start winner London Gal (Sizzling) and the Malaysian winner Ocean Eleven (Rubick), Ripcord's four-time winning dam Single In London (Not A Single Doubt) foaled a Lucky Vega (Ire) filly before her retirement from stud duties last spring.
A half-sister to the stakes-placed Jetting To London (Jet Spur), Single In London is a great-granddaughter of the G1 Queensland Oaks winner Travel Light (NZ) (Bellissimo {Fr}) and is closely related to the G1 Flight S. winner Only A Lady (Sir Tristram {Ire}).
Bendigo: Listed Bendigo Guineas, $200,000, 1400m
Part of a great day (a great hour in fact!) for the Peter Moody stable, Waltz On By (I Am Invincible) increased her already sizeable value with a second success at Listed level.
Also winner of the Listed Jim Moloney S. in the spring, the homebred for Arrowfield, Planette Thoroughbreds and Belford Productions, Waltz On By is a third-generation stakes winner with her dam Stay With Me (Street Cry {Ire}) winning the G1 Thousand Guineas whilst her grandam Miss Finland (Redoute's Choice) was five times successful in Group 1 company.
One of the 91 stakes winners for Yarraman Park's reigning Champion Sire, Waltz On By is just the second foal for her talented dam with her first being the lightly raced, city-placed winner Always On My Mind (Deep Impact {Jpn}).
Last spring served by Dundeel (NZ), Stay With Me has her yet to race 2-year-old Invincible Emma (Dundeel {NZ}) - a $1.7 million Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate - in the Hawkes stable. Her Dundeel yearling colt is Lot 384 at next week's sale and she foaled a full sister to Waltz On By in September.
Miss Finland is still at stud, last spring served by Street Boss (USA) after foaling a Dundeel filly. Six of her seven foals to race are winners with another three earning black-type - Bucharest (Deep Impact {Jpn}), Earth Angel (Animal Kingdom {USA}) and Woodbine (Hussonet {USA}) all stakes-placed.
Listed Golden Mile, $200,000, 1600m
Winning his last three, rising through the grades from a BM84 contest at Sandown to the Echuca Cup to this Listed contest, Here To Shock (NZ) (Shocking) was just too good giving a nice kick in run home.
Bred by The Sunlight Trust and sold by Cambridge Stud to Slade Bloodstock for NZ$70,000 at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale, he is the 21st stakes winner for his Rich Hill Stud-based, G1 Melbourne Cup-winning sire.
And he is the second stakes winner for the two-time winner (from just three starts) Frescoes (Lonhro) whose son Turn The Ace (NZ) (Turn Me Loose) is a Listed winner in New Zealand.
Served last spring by Turn Me Loose after foaling a Trapeze Artist filly, Frescoes is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Kisani (Viscount). Her grandam is the G1 AJC Sires' Produce S. winner Shaybisc (Biscay) who was represented by 11 winners from 12 runners.
Three of her progeny were stakes winners - Sashed (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}), Bradshaw (Last Tycoon {Ire}) and Asarka (Crown Jester) and she is also ancestress of another seven stakes winners including the Group 1 gallopers Freemason (Grand Lodge {USA}) and Mental (Lonhro).
Morphettville: Listed Manihi Classic, $107,250, 1100m
The Cliff Brown stable enjoyed plenty of black-type success in the years before he relocated to Singapore and he was back in action at Morphettville with Little Miss Kubi (Headwater) a tough winner.
Three times successful from just eight starts, she was having her first start at stakes level - becoming her Vinery Stud-based, G2 Silver Slipper S.-winning sire's sixth stakes winner.
A homebred for Greg Perry's Greenwich Stud, Little Miss Kubi is the second foal and second winner (the promising Hong Kong-based Big Me by Your Song the first) for the unraced Miss Eisenstadt (Manhattan Rain).
Served last spring by All Too Hard having missed at her two previous seasons (her latest foal a yet to be named 2-year-old No Nay Never {USA} filly), Miss Eisenstadt is out of the G2 The Shorts winner Fritz's Princess (More Than Ready {USA}).
Able to boast amongst her relations the Group 1 winners Contentment (Hussonet {USA}) and Align, Little Miss Kubi is bred on a 4 X 4 cross of Dancing Show (USA) (Nijinsky II {Can}) - dam of Headwater's damsire Hurricane Sky and grandam of Manhattan Rain.
Listed Clare Lindop S., $107,250, 1600m
This was a very nice way for the well-related As Time Goes By (Deep Impact {Jpn}) to break her maiden.
Fairway Thoroughbreds' homebred is the 195th stakes winner for his late sire - and his sixth on Australian soil.
She is the first winner for the dual Group 3 winner A Time For Julia (Redoute's Choice) whose G3 Tristarc S.-winning dam Procrastinate (Jade Hunter {USA}) did a great job at stud with her 12 winners including the South African star Laisserfaire (Danehill {USA}) and the Listed winners Time Thief, Foreplay and Personify (Galileo {Ire}).
Procrastinate is ancestress of another seven stakes winners including the G1 VRC Oaks winner Personal (Fastnet Rock).
A Time For Julia was served last spring by Pinatubo (Ire) after foaling a Too Darn Hot (GB) colt. Her yearling filly by I Am Invincible has already been named Somewhere In Time.
