The memorable weekend for Capitalist began on Friday evening at Cranbourne when his beautifully bred juvenile daughter Milliondollarmumma broke her maiden on debut over 1200 metres for her trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman.
Retained to race by the Love family Milliondollarmumma is the third foal from the Redoute’s Choice mare Angel’s Choice. Although Angel’s Choice was unraced, she has a beautiful page, being a full sister to Melito (Redoute’s Choice), who was a dual Group 1 winner of the G1 TJ Smith S. and G1 Winter S. Angel's Choice is also a three-quarter sister to Pariah, a dual Group 3 winner on the track and a stake-producing stallion who now resides at Arrowfield Stud.
Angel’s Choice was a private broodmare purchase by James Harron Bloodstock for the Love family, who bred and retained Milliondollarmumma. The Love family enjoyed a profitable 24 hours with the progeny of Capitalist when their other homebred Penthouse, a 3-year-old filly, brought up her third victory at Hawkesbury in a highway carrying top weight on Saturday.
Newgate Farm’s Director of Bloodstock Bruce Slade told TDN AusNZ, “It was a great few days for Capitalist. He kicked off the weekend with what he does best - an impressive 2-year-old debut winner with Milliondollarmumma. She became the 11th juvenile winner of the season for Capitalist, who has only been bettered by his barn mate Russian Revolution on 12 so far.”

Saturday double
On Saturday, joining Penthouse was the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained I'Mlovin'Ya, the daughter of Capitalist returned to her best form to capture her second stakes success in the Listed Redelva S. over 1100 metres at Morphettville Parks.
Bred and retained by the United Syndications Capital Syndicate, I’Mlovin’Ya had achieved stakes success as a juvenile in the Listed Talindert S.

“The weekend established that the progeny of our dominant sire of 2-year-olds train on,” said Slade.
“Saturday saw a metropolitan win on the Hawkesbury Gold Cup card for Penthouse and a 3-year-old stakes win for I’Mlovin’Ya in Adelaide to go with her black-type success as a 2-year-old.”
Super Sunday
On Sunday, Capitalist continued to hit the key notes, his 4-year-old gelded son Blue Marlin, who was exported to Hong Kong and is trained by Douglas Whyte, broke through to win his maiden in the HKJC Pottinger Peak H. over 1400 metres and, in doing so became Capitalist’s fifth winner from only eight starters in the jurisdiction.
The gelding is the eighth foal from the Dolphin Street (Fr) mare Grenada. Blue Marlin, a half-brother to Press Report (Written Tycoon), was placed in the G2 Silver Slipper S. and the G2 Breeders’ Classic and was fourth in the G1 Spring Champion S.
He was a $150,000 yearling purchased by Michael Hickmott Bloodstock from the draft of Newgate Farm at the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Capitalist excelled on the track over the weekend but reminded everybody of the weight his progeny hold in the sale ring when the Newgate Farm stallion provided the $280,000 sale-topper of the Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale on Sunday, the colt was consigned by Kingstar Farm as Lot 300. He is the first foal from the Sebring mare Princess Joy Joy, a blood-sister to Criterion (NZ), who won four Group 1s, including a crowning glory in the G1 Queen Elizabeth S.

The colt impressed Scott Darby’s Darby Racing so much, Darby said, “We waited all day for him and weren’t leaving without him.”
However, Capitalist’s weekend to remember was capped when connections announced that the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained 3-year-old colt Cannonball would chase Group 1 glory at the Royal Ascot meeting in June.
The colt will tackle the G1 King's Stand S. with Champion hoop Brett Prebble booked to ride the exciting prospect at the famous meeting.
Cannonball has enjoyed a fine autumn preparation claiming the G3 Maurice McCarten S. and a valuable Group 1-placing in the G1 The Galaxy.

As Slade pointed out earlier, the juvenile Listed winner Cannonball is another prime example of the Capitalist breed training on as older horses.
“We got the news from James Harron that Cannonball is set to become Capitalist’s first European runner when he contests the Group 1 King's Stand S. at Royal Ascot against some of Europe and Australia’s best sprinters,” Slade told TDN AusNZ.
“It is really exciting stuff for our young stallion with his oldest (progeny) just 4 years old, yet he has already knocked over 100 winners this season and is knocking on the top 10 active sires by stakes winners and is already established as an elite 2-year-old sire.
“Capitalist’s best crops are still coming through, so we expect to talk a lot about him every season.”

Quality offering at Magic Millions National Sale series
The Group 1 Golden Slipper winner will be represented by five weanlings at the upcoming 2023 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, including two standout lots from the draft of Segenhoe Stud.
TDN AusNZ caught up with Segenhoe Stud General Manager Peter O’Brien to discuss the two offerings by Capitalist, “We always aim to sell around 20 horses every year and felt with the year Capitalist was having, we thought let’s capitalise on his popularity and a put a few nice weanlings on the sales ground at the Gold Coast.”
The first offering through the ring by Capitalist from Segenhoe will be Lot 159, a bay filly, and the first foal from the Deep Impact (Jpn) mare Enood.

The filly hails from an outstanding family, that of Champion Sprinter Lankan Rupee (Redoute’s Choice), an 11-time winner, including winning the best sprint races on the Australian calendar pre the inception of The Everest.
Lankan Rupee won the G1 TJ Smith S., the G1 Newmarket H., the G1 Lighting S. and the G1 Manikato S. and G1 Oakleigh Plate, a genuinely exceptional horse who was crowned the Australian Horse of the Year in 2013/14.
“Enood herself was a $1 million yearling and by the incredible Deep Impact. She’s from the family of Lankan Rupee. The filly has beautiful quality. She’s strong and very precocious-looking with terrific action.”

The second and final Segenhoe/Capitalist offering will be Lot 394, a bay colt; he is the seventh foal from the Redoute’s Choice mare Sister Madly.
Sister Madly was an outstanding race mare winning the G2 Salinger S. and the G2 Southern Cross S. and being placed in the G1 Flight S., G1 Manikato S., and the G1 Robert Sangster S.
Sister Madly is a half-sister to the Hong Kong eight-time Group 1 winner Silent Witness (El Moxie {USA}).
“Sister Madly was a terrific race mare, and the Jade Tiara family is one of the best in The Australian Stud Book; this is also a very current family. The colt himself is a big, strong colt, very robust. He is a good mover and looks ideal to bring back to a Magic Millions Sale next year.”
O’Brien is equally as effusive in his praise of Capitalist, “Capitalist is having a great season and going from strength to strength. We are looking forward to the following few crops from the better mares, so I think he’s set to have a big future.”

The former Champion 2-Year-Old will also be represented by six quality race fillies/ broodmare prospects in the 2023 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
Among them is Lot 641 Shihonka, a Group 3-placed daughter of Capitalist from the Group 3-placed Real Saga mare Stroak. The 5-year-old mare will be offered through the Newgate Consignment.
While Widden Stud will offer Lot 670, the Listed-winning Tycoon Humma is a half-sister to Humma Humma (Denman), a winner of the G3 Alinghi S.
There will also be a quality offering from Kenmore Lodge, Lot 943. It’s Rewarding, the unraced 5-year-old is a daughter of Lindisfarne (USA) (City Zip {USA}), who was a Listed winner in the United States and is the dam of the smart juvenile performer Disneck (Trapeze Artist).

It’s Rewarding is carrying a valuable cover to Russian Revolution, barn mate of Capitalist, who is also enjoying a sensational season.
The outstanding season could extend past months to seasons, with sons of Capitalist starting to filter into the top studs in Australia, with Group 1-winner Captivant standing at Kia Ora Stud and Profiteer standing alongside his sire at Newgate Farm.
Things are looking rosy for the son of Champion Sire Written Tycoon.
