Shamus Award priced at $60,500 (inc GST) heads Rosemont Stud roster

Victorian-based Rosemont Stud has released its fees for the 2023 breeding season, with a value approach to pricing its talented Champion Victorian Sire, Shamus Award.

The Rosemont roster comprises four stallions, headed by the Group 1-producing stallion Shamus Award, who will be available for $60,500 (inc GST) this season, a drop from the 2022 fee figure of $88,000 (inc GST).

The dual Group 1 winner of the G1 WS Cox Plate and G1 Australian Guineas has produced four individual Group 1 winners, including the outstanding gallopers Incentivise and Duais, and a further nine Group or Listed winners.

Shamus Award has established himself as a superb sire son of the Arrowfield- Stud based Champion Sire Snitzel. Recording a 6.7 per cent stakes winners to runners ratio, Shamus Award was well-recieved at the 2023 yearling sales, averaging $108,000 with a top price of $320,000 for the filly from Vigilance (Sepoy).

His largest foal crop, off a $33,000 (inc GST) fee, produced 143 foals, which will be hitting the tracks at an optimum time for foals concieved in the 2023 breeding season. Shamus Award covered 137 mares in 2022, from a career-high fee of $88,000 (inc GST).

Following Shamus Award in fee is Extreme Warrior, a son of the extraordinary Newgate Farm-based Extreme Choice. The stakes-placed juvenile will stand his second season at $19,800 (inc GST), down from a debut service fee of $24,750 (inc GST) where he covered 113 mares.

Quality mares covered by Extreme Warrior include the stakes-winning dam of Group 1 winner Instant Celebrity (Not A Single Doubt) in Celebrity Girl (Starcraft {NZ}), Group 1 winner and dual stakes producer Small Minds (Canny Lad), Soft Landing (Al Maher), the dam of Group 1 winner Krone (Eurozone), and Group-winning All Hallow’s Eve (NZ) (Sacred Falls {NZ}).

Extreme Warrior sent plenty of tongues wagging early in his racing career as a fast and precocious 2-year-old, who stepped up at three to claim the G3 Blue Sapphire S.

The popular son of Street Boss (USA), Hanseatic, will remain at his introductory fee of $17,600 (inc GST) for his third season at stud. In his first two seasons, Hanseatic covered 370 mares, with Rosemont stating that “over 60 per cent of breeders who supported Hanseatic in his first season, returned again in his second season.”

His sire, Street Boss - also the sire of exceptional colt Anamoe, will stand at Darley Australia’s Northwood Park property in Victoria, at a fee of $66,000 (inc GST), returning to his first Australian home after two seasons in New South Wales.

Rounding out the Rosemont Stud roster for 2023 is Strasbourg, a son of Yarraman Park’s Champion Sire I Am Invincible, who is priced at a reduced fee of $8800 (inc GST) for his fourth season. He stood the 2022 season, and two seasons prior, at $11,000 (inc GST).

A $750,000 yearling purchase at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Strasbourg covered 298 in his first three years at stud.

Strasbourg's first crop hit the 2023 Australiasian yearling sales, with his 17 yearlings averaging over $53,000.

His top colt fetched $220,000, selling to Duncan Ramage at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, while his top filly went to Phillip Stokes for $170,000 at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale. Both his top-priced yearlings were consigned by The Chase.
