Lot 247 - Sublime Image (Redoute’s Choice x Storm Alert {Metal Storm {Fr}}) - $110,000
Buyer: Rich Hill Thoroughbreds
Vendor: Holbrook Thoroughbreds
Purchased from the dispersal offering of prominent Western Australian breeder Bob Peters, Rich Hill Stud’s John Thompson signed for Lot 247, a daughter of Redoute’s Choice.
Landing the winning bid of $110,000, he secured Sublime Image, a three-time winner whose own dam is the G3 Cockram S. winner and G1 VRC Oaks placegetter Storm Alert (Metal Storm {Fr}). Sublime Image is also a sister to Windstorm and a half-sister to Dark Alert (Testa Rossa) - both Listed winners.

“Number one she’s (Sublime Image) a beautiful-looking mare,” Rich Hill Stud’s John Thompson told TDN AusNZ. “Some of the Redoute’s (Choices) can be a bit big and plain perhaps, but she’s just absolute quality, and correct.
“I actually bought her to go to Satono Aladdin, because of that lovely Danehill blood and a bit of Star Kingdom too.”
As the broodmare sire of Anamoe, Zoustar and Rich Hill’s own Ace High, the influence of Redoute’s Choice as a broodmare sire certainly wasn’t lost on Thompson as he sought out quality mares for his rising star Satono Aladdin (Jpn).

Declared not in foal, the 7-year-old mare has produced two foals so far. Both retained by Peters Investments. The first is a Justify (USA) yearling filly and the second is a filly foal by Shooting To Win.
“Bob Peters speaks for itself,” Thompson added. “She’s had two foals, and sometimes people might get rid of a mare because she’s thrown a couple of bad foals, but you know when you’re buying from an unreserved dispersal there’s a genuine reason for selling.
“It gives you a bit more confidence, and that's why those horses always sell well.”

Climbing from a service fee of NZ$17,500 (plus GST) last year to NZ$70,000 (plus GST) for this year, the recent exploits of Satono Aladdin have been well publicised. The sire of Pennyweka (NZ), the cross-Tasman Group 1 New Zealand-Australian Oaks double winner, and impressive 2-year-old Tokyo Tycoon (NZ), Satono Aladdin has certainly enjoyed a stellar season.
Admitting that he’s unlikely to struggle for support as this year’s breeding season dawns, Thompson pointed to an ideal physical match with his latest purchase that he didn’t want to pass up.
“He’s quite a tall, elegant horse, so you need strength and she’s just a nice size and quite strong.”
