Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
There’s plenty of racing across Australia on Friday and we have found interesting runners that are set to debut. The first of those is a well-related Dundeel (NZ) 2-year-old, who lines up at Goulburn. At Cranbourne, Coolmore has a lovely Justify (USA) engaged, while Winx’s (Street Cry {Ire}) half-sister is also set to make her first appearance at the races.

Sweet Proposal, 2-year-old filly (Dundeel {NZ} x Tender {All American})
Bred by Wallings Bloodstock, this filly was consigned by Tyreel Stud at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. She was purchased by Triple Crown Syndications for $200,000.
Sweet Proposal is the fourth foal of a three-time winner and stakes performer.

The filly is a half-sister to Orpheum (More Than Ready {USA}), the Randwick-Kensington scorer who also ran fourth in the G3 Gimcrack S. in 2019.
Sweet Proposal’s second dam, Memoir (Danehill {USA}), placed at two and is a sister to the dual Listed victress Princesa and she herself is the dam of the Group 2 winners Solicit (Street Cry {Ire}) and Star Of Giselle (Reset).
Other stakes winners on the filly’s page include Kapchat (NZ) (Centaine), Starelle (More Than Ready {USA}) and Kaphero.
The Annabel Neasham-trained filly has been to the trials on three occasions and placed third over 737 metres at Randwick on May 1.
Heavelon Van Der Hoven has been booked for the ride.

Clavadatsch, 2-year-old filly (Justify {USA} x Art Collection {Fastnet Rock})
This homebred filly races for Coolmore, Flaxman Stables Ireland and Cobra and is by Australia’s leading first-season sire.
Clavadatsch is from a 1300-metre winner who also placed in Group 3 company and is a half-sister to the brilliant Lankan Rupee (Redoute’s Choice), the Horse of the Year in Australia in 2013/14 and Champion Sprinter in Australia in 2013/14.

The colt is also closely related to the stakes winners Manhattan Street (Manhattan Rain), Count De Rupee (Real Impact {Jpn}), Estelle Collection (NZ) (Stravinsky {USA}) and La Sizeranne (NZ) (Stravinsky {USA}), among others.
Anthony and Sam Freedman train Clavadatsch, who finished third in a Werribee trial over 800 metres on May 16.
The filly will be handled by Ben Allen.

City Of Lights, 3-year-old filly (Deep Impact {Jpn} x Vegas Showgirl {NZ} {Al Akbar})
There is sure to be plenty of interest surrounding this filly’s debut, given she is a half-sister to the great Winx (Street Cry {Ire}), a four-time G1 Cox Plate heroine and winner of a world record 25 Group 1s.
City Of Lights is a homebred for John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds and is by the late Deep Impact (Jpn), one of the all–time great stallions.

The filly is from a dual Listed scorer who, as well as Winx, has produced the G3 Kindergarten S. winner of 2016, El Divino (Snitzel).
City Of Lights, who is trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, has contested four jump-outs and came home well to finish second in her latest one at Flemington last week.
Ben Allen has been engaged for the high-profile debut.
Looking Back
At Gosford, Ozzmosis (Zoustar) was an impressive winner on debut, while Extreme Merger (Extreme Choice) finished out of the money. Meanwhile, Kingwell (I Am Invincible) ran fourth at Pakenham.
