Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Saturday, the spotlight will be over three well-bred juveniles making their debuts across Australia.

Flemington, Race 2. 12.25pm AEST, Rod Johnson H., $150,000, 1420m

The Hindustan (NZ), 2-year-old colt (Savabeel x My Country {Ire} {Invincible Spirit {Ire}})

The in-form Flemington-based trainer Michael Moroney will debut a son of the eight-time New Zealand Champion Sire, Savabeel, The Hindustan (NZ), at Flemington on Saturday.

The Hindustan is the fourth foal from the unraced Invincible Spirit (Ire) mare My Country (Ire). She is a half-sister to Peace At Last (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}) who won the G2 Koln Mehl-mulhens Rennen and was placed in the G3 Baden-Baden Bedener Meile.

The colt was a NZ$50,000 purchase by Paul Moroney Bloodstock from the draft of Valachi Downs at the 2022 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale.

Deep Dawn, 2-year-old filly (Deep Field x Awoke {NZ} {Rip Van Winkle {Ire}})

Queensland’s premier trainer Tony Gollan will debut a daughter of Deep Field, Deep Dawn, at Ipswich on Saturday.

Deep Dawn is the second foal from the Rip Van Winkle (Ire) mare Awoke (NZ). She was a three-time winner, including winning twice as a juvenile.

Awoke is a half-sister to Cismontane (NZ) (High Chaparral {Ire}), who was a five-time winner, recording a victory in the G3 Lexus S. and was placed in the G2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup.

Deep Dawn was a $200,000 yearling purchase by John Foote Bloodstock (FBAA) from the draft of Newgate Farm at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Kembla Grange, Race 3, 1.40pm AEST, Tynan Suzuki Mdn Plate, $40,000, 1300m

Mad Deel, 2-year-old colt (Dundeel {NZ} x Madeenaty {Exceed And Excel})

Randwick-based trainers Peter and Paul Snowden will debut a son of the flying Arrowfield-based stallion Dundeel (NZ), Mad Deel, at Kembla Grange on Saturday.

Mad Deel is the second foal from the Exceed And Excel mare Madeenaty. She was a dual winner as a 2-year-old, including a victory in the R. Listed Magic Millions Wyong Classic and the Listed Maribyrnong Trial S.

Madeenaty was also placed in the G3 Ottawa S. and is a daughter of the Group 2-winning and Group 1-placed Set For Fame (Reset).

Mad Deel was a $120,000 weanling purchase by Trilogy Racing from the Shadwell Stud Australasia Unreserved Dispersal Sale from the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale.

Looking Back

Oceans Quiet (Lonhro) and Firebolt (Better Than Ready) were scratched from their engagements at Geelong and Goulburn respectively, but Showdra (Showtime) saluted at the Sunshine Coast.
