Black type results: Ipswich, Rosehill and Belmont

Ipswich: Listed Ipswich Cup, $200,000, 2150m

Regal Lion (NZ) (Jakkalberry {Ire}) narrowly defeated the favourite Desert Icon (Fr) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) to win the Listed Ipswich Cup.

Bred by B S and C McComb, the gelding is the first foal out of the Congrats (USA) mare Red Delight (NZ). She also has a further three foals on the ground by Shocking, including the 3-year-old gelding Liquid Fire (NZ), who is trained by Ralph Manning, as well as a 2-year-old filly and yearling filly.

The second dam, Ready And Able (More Than Ready {USA}) is out of Group 1-winning mare Danglissa (Danzero) and is a half-sister to Redeeming Lass (Red Ransom {USA}), dam of the Group 3 winner Sweet Redemption (Snitzel), Maglissa (Magnus), dam of R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Unite And Conquer and Meduesa (Fusaichi Pegasus {USA}), dam of Listed winner Euryale (Lonhro).

The family also has ties to Inglis Millennium winner Profiteer who now resides at Newgate Farm.

Listed Eye Liner S., $200,000, 1350m

Lady Of Honour (No Nay Never {USA}) records her second Listed win after digging deep in a tight finish in the Eye Liner S. at Ipswich.

Bred by Katom, Lady Of Honour is out of the lightly raced mare Majesty (Fastnet Rock), the dam is a full sister to the Listed-placed Kincara Miss. They are out of Kincara Palace (Ire) (Fairy King {USA}) who is a Group winner herself and a half-sister to Listed-winning Hamaliya (Ire) (High Line {GB}), dam of the Listed winner Hamirpour (Ire) (Shahrastani {USA}).

Black-type winners continue to fill Lady Of Honour’s pedigree page including Group 1 winners Relkino (GB) (Relko {GB}), Timarida (Ire) (Kalaglow {Ire}) and Muhaarar (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}).

Majesty’s last foal to go through the ring was a colt by Too Darn Hot (GB) who was prepared by Segenhoe Stud and sold to McKeever Bloodstock, Lindsay Park Racing and Watership Down at the 2023 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $500,000.

Majesty is carrying serve to So You Think (NZ) and has an unraced 2-year-old colt on the ground, Our Couver (Vancouver) who is in training with Jerom Hunter.

Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic, $160,000, 1200m

Chassis (Al Maher) makes it back-to-back wins, handing Jake Bayliss his third black-type win in Australia with a rails run in the Gai Waterhouse Classic. A first win for the mare at stakes-level and seventh overall from 33 starts.

Bred by Nicol Transport Pty Ltd and out of the Hussonet (USA) mare Poco Gusto (Hussonet {USA}), Chassis is a half-sister to the Listed-placed, Indernile (Street Boss {USA}). The dam herself is out of G1 South Australian Oaks-placed mare Kachina (El Qahirea {NZ}).

Chassis was recently purchased at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale by Parsons Creek Farm and Dermot Farrington Bloodstock for $230,000 from Ciaron Maher Racing.

Rosehill: Listed WJ McKell Cup, $160,000, 2000m

Too strong to the line Zoumon (Zoustar) claims his first black-type win after previously placing fourth in the 2022 G1 Australian Derby.

Bred by Asco International and prepared by Element Hill at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Zoumon was purchased by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott Racing in partnership with Mt Hallowell Stud for $360,000.

The gelding is out of Monblue (GB) (Monsun {Ger}), who is a Listed winner herself. She has gone close to producing a black-type winner with Lady Athena (Fr) (Redoute’s Choice) who was fourth in a Listed race in France.

The dam has further ties to black-type class including being a three-quarter sister to the Listed winner Sommernachtstraum (Ger) (Shirocco {Ger}) and a half-sister to the Listed winners Salon Soldier (Ger) (Soldier Hollow {GB}), Salonlove (Ger) (Lawman {Fr}) as well as Salonshuffle (Ger) (Big Shuffle {USA}), dam of Listed-winning Serena (Ger) (Soldier Hollow {GB}).

Monblue’s last foal is an unnamed 2-year-old by Capitalist, while Zoustar stands at Widden Stud for $220,000 (inc GST) this season.

Belmont: Listed Belmont Guineas, $125,000, 1600m

Rusty Dreams (Universal Ruler) came from last on the corner and took a rails run to win the Listed Belmont Guineas by 1.88l. The filly goes one better after placing second in the Listed Raconteur S. last start.

Rusty Dream was bred by Canal Enterprise Syndicate and is out of She Done Him Wrong (Oratorio). This was the dam’s first black-type winner with her only other named foal, Rusty Spirit (Trade Fair {GB}), being a winner of three races. She Done Him Wrong is also a half-sister to the Listed-placed Rusty Peaches (Danehill Express), while the third dam, Mercurial Madam (Is It True {USA}) is a winner of the G2 Champion Fillies S.

Universal Ruler continues his dominance in the west, with Rusty Dream becoming his 10th individual stakes winner. He stands at Scenic Lodge for a service fee of $8250 (inc GST) in 2023.
