Looking Ahead - June 23

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

We begin on Friday in New Zealand with a Satono Aladdin (Jpn) juvenile. From there, we look at a well-related Manhattan Rain filly at Ballarat, before finishing up at Tamworth, where a Mikki Isle (Jpn) 2-year-old will be looking to go two from two.

Manhattan Rain | Standing at Geisel Park

Let Her Rain’s second dam, Miss Doopsy (Bite The Bullet {USA}), won eight races and is a sister to the seven-time scorer Beat The Bullet and she herself has thrown the Group 1 heroine Hollow Bullet (Tayasu Tsuyoshi {Jpn}), as well as the stakes winners Last Bullet (High Chaparral {Ire}) and Red Hot Mama (General Nediym).

Jarrod Lorensini has been booked for the filly’s debut.

This gelding, who was a winner on debut at Muswellbrook earlier this month, is a homebred for Arrowfield Stud.

Mikki Isle (Jpn) | Standing at Shadai Stallion Station

Perennial is from a winless mare who is a half-sister to the stakes performer Gibraltar Girl (Manhattan Rain).

The gelding’s grandam is the Listed scorer Gibraltar Campion (NZ) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}), and she is a half-sister to the Group 2 victress Only Words (NZ) (End Sweep), who in turn has thrown the stakes winners Chat (Deep Field) and Holy Snow (Fastnet Rock).
