Looking Ahead - July 25

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

For racing on Tuesday, we look at two at Pakenham-Synthetic and a 3-year-old at Newcastle. We kick off with Flying Artie gelding at Newcastle then head to Victoria where an Australia (GB) 3-year-old with a big international pedigree makes his debut, before a well-bred Deep Impact (Jpn) filly for John Camilleri races for the first time.

Newcastle, Race 2, 1.35pm AEST, Kloster Motor Group CG&E Mdn Plate, $27,000, 1200m

Artie Ag Eitilt, 3-year-old gelding (Flying Artie x Joseph’s Coat {Fastnet Rock})

Bred by China Horse Club, this gelding was offered by Glenn Haven Thoroughbreds at the 2021 Inglis Ready2Race Sale. He was bought for $140,000.

The Jake Hull-trained gelding is from an unraced mare who is a sister to the Listed victress Saturn Rock and a half-sister to the stakes performer Omeros (High Chaparral {Ire}).

His grandam, Satin Robes (Ne Coupez Pas {USA}), won three races, including the Listed Kensington S. in 2007.

Artie Ag Eitilt, who was unplaced in five trials ahead of his debut, will be partnered by Lee Magorrian.

Pakenham-Synthetic, Race 4, 2pm AEST, Shanks Electrical Mdn Plate, $27,000, 1600m

Bit Of Oz (GB), 3-year-old gelding (Australia {GB} x Bitooh {GB} {Diktat {GB}})

Bred by the Pocock Family, this gelding is from a winner at 2000 metres in France who is a half-sister to the 2017 G1 Melbourne Cup hero Rekindling (GB) (High Chaparral {Ire}) and the Group 3 scorer Golden Sword (GB), as well as the stakes performer Sydney Opera House (GB) (Australia {GB}).

Bit Of Oz is also closely related to the multiple Listed winner Julie’s Love (GB) (Ad Valorem {USA}) and the Group 2 victor Technical Analysis (Ire) (Kingman {GB}).

Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock train this 3-year-old and apprentice Carleen Hefel will ride him on debut.

Pakenham-Synthetic, Race 5, 2.30pm AEST, Sportsbet Bet with Mates Mdn Plate, $27,000, 1400m

The Way We Were, 3-year-old filly (Deep Impact {Jpn} x Peron {Husson {Arg}})

This filly is a homebred for John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds and is from the Listed victress Peron, making The Way We Were a half-sister to the Group 3 winner Juan Diva (Snitzel). Peron herself is a half-sister to the stakes winners Atmospherical (Northern Meteor) and Gai’s Choice (General Nediym); the latter is the dam of the Listed scorer I Like It Easy (Pierro).

Other stakes winners on the filly’s page include Eagle Falls (Hussonet {USA}), Fabrizio (High Chaparral {Ire}) and Mahara (Hussonet {USA}).

The Peter Moody-trained The Way We Were also has the services of Hefel and will break from the inside alley.

Looking Back
