Campbell transported to hospital
Gun apprentice Luke Campbell was dislodged from his mount Naval Academy (Justify {USA}) in the opening event at Sandown-Lakeside on Sunday. Campbell was attended by paramedics on course and was able to communicate, but he complained of soreness to his shoulder and knee. Racing Victoria stewards stood Campbell down from his engagements, and he was transported to hospital for further examination, with the knee and shoulder areas the focus.
Naval Academy continued to run on and was captured by clerks of the course, where Racing Victoria vets examined him with no apparent abnormalities.
Orman thrilled to secure Antino ride
Queensland-based jockey James Orman is thrilled to secure the ride on the Tony Gollan-trained Antino (NZ) (Redwood {GB}) when he tackles the Victorian spring.
“I reckon he is the best horse I’ve ever ridden,” Orman declared to Punters.
“If I have to give up a few winners in Brisbane, that is the least of my worries, if I get to ride Antino in Victoria.
“I have won eight races on him, so he goes pretty good.”
Antino’s spring target is the G1 Toorak H. and is set to kick-off in a Listed race.
Sunshine In Paris makes trek to The Everest
Sydney trainer Annabel Neasham is hopeful her star filly Sunshine In Paris (Invader) will put her hand up for a slot in the $20 million The Everest.
“Sunshine In Paris has grown up. She’s strengthened up, physically and mentally she’s grown up. She knows what it’s all about now,” Neasham said.

“It’s definitely an exciting proposition to see where she ends up.”
The daughter of Invader is set to tackle the G2 Sheraco S.
“If she wins the Sheraco it would put her in the Everest picture.”
Forgot You and Uncle Bryn to tackle PB Lawrence
Cranbourne-based trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young are targeting the G2 PB Lawrence S. with stable stars Forgot You (NZ) (Savabeel) and Uncle Bryn (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}).
“They went to Sale (Wednesday) to gallop on the course proper and (have) a day away, and they’ll trial up on Monday at the official trials at Cranbourne and then all going well they’ll run in the Lawrence,” Busuttin said.

Bews is back
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained Bews (I Am Invincible) returned to his best form on Sunday at Sandown-Lakeside. The recently gelded 4-year-old with Blake Shinn in the saddle won by 3l from Mainmanray (Squamosa) and General Knowledge (No Nay Never {USA}) over 1200 metres.
Bews was considered good enough to tackle the G1 Coolmore Stud S. and the G3 Blue Sapphire S. last season. However, failed to find his best in those events.
The son of I Am Invincible was a $400,000 yearling purchase by the Victorian Alliance, Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA) and David Redvers Bloodstock from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Benedetta to emulate Rhythm In Paris?
Mornington-based trainer Jason Warren will run Benedetta (Hellbent) in the G3 Cockram S. at Caulfield on September 2, after returning to the races to win at Flemington on Saturday.
Warren is hopeful his star mare can emulate Rhythm In Paris (Bianconi {USA}) who gave Warren his first stakes winner in 2010 when she won the Cockram.

“Rhythm In Paris was the second horse I ever trained, so there are really special memories from the Cockram for me. It would be good to win it again,” Warren said.
“It was good to see Benedetta come back and get the job done on Saturday, as she’s only 80 per cent fit. I’m looking forward to getting her to better races.”
Freedman to train Winx half-sibling
Randwick-based trainer Michael Freedman will train Winx’s (Street Cry {Ire}) half-sister Taleitaki (Pride Of Dubai). Taleitaki, Fijian for a precious place, is the 10th foal from Vegas Showgirl (NZ) (Al Akbar) and has been retained by breeder John Camilleri.
“Taleitaki is a big, athletic type that certainly isn’t going to be an early comer,” Freedman said.
“Just looking at her, she’s probably the type you’d think would hopefully get to the races at the back end of the autumn as a late 2-year-old. Taleitaki stands over quite a bit of ground and she had her first look around Randwick and handled herself well.
“It’s obviously very early days but she’s a nice type.”
Smart winner for Needs Further
Ballarat-based trainer Nigel Blackiston looked to have a promising filly in the form of Subrising (Needs Further) on his hands after a tough victory at Sandown-Lakeside on Sunday.
The 3-year-old filly was ridden by Robbie Downey in the 1200 metre event and collared Let’s Get Down (Better Than Ready) late on the line, with Elderberry (Bolt D’Oro {USA}) back in third.
Subrising is the fourth foal from Savoire Vivre (GB)) mare Grisbi’s Run. The filly was a $20,000 weanling purchase by Nigel Blackiston when offered by R. Beadle at the 2021 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale.
Needs Further will stand the 2023 breeding season at Armidale Stud, Tasmania for $5500 (inc GST).
Maloney commits to Skirt The Law
Ryan Maloney, who has relocated to Sydney for more Group race opportunities in the spring, has declared he will leave his Sydney base to partner the Tony Gollan-trained Skirt The Law (Better Than Ready) in Melbourne assignments.
Skirt The Law was one of the star juveniles from last season when winning the R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic, she is expected to kick her spring preparation off in the G3 Quezette S. at Caulfield on August 19.
Maloney will also continue his association with the Annabel Neasham-trained Sunshine In Paris (Invader).
Royal Scotsman to the sidelines until 2024 with bone bruising
The Classic-placed Royal Scotsman (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}), who bears the colours of Mrs Fitri Hay, will not race again this season due to bone bruising, co-trainer Paul Cole revealed on Saturday. However, the G2 Richmond S. winner will return next year.
“He's suffered from bone bruising, which is quite rare but not a long-term issue,” said Paul Cole, who trains with his son Oliver. “Sadly, he won't run again this season.
“My intention is to win as many Group 1s over a mile as I can with him next year.”
Second in the G1 Dewhurst S. and third in the G1 2000 Guineas at Newmarket both times to Chaldean (GB) (Frankel {GB}), the bay has been unplaced in two additional starts this term. In both cases, the colt was beaten by star 3-year-old Paddington (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}), in the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas and the G1 St James's Palace S. in May and June.
