Looking Ahead - August 8

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Just the two runners for us to look at on Tuesday, and both are 3-year-olds on debut at Pakenham-Synthetic. The first is a Grunt (NZ) colt who made good money as a yearling, while the other is a Not A Single Doubt filly that also had her share of admirers when put through the sales ring.

Akicita, 3-year-old colt (Grunt {NZ} x Little Indian {Not A Single Doubt})

Rupert Legh bred this colt and he remains in the ownership. Akicita was offered by Blue Gum Farm at the 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and Griffiths de Kock Racing and Peter Ford Thoroughbreds (FBAA) went to $300,000 for him.

The colt is the third foal of a two-time winner who is a sister to the stakes performer Fidelia.

Akicita’s third dam is the Listed placegetter Truly Believe (Kenmare {Fr}) and she herself is a sister to Simply Believe - the dam of the Group 2 scorer Faith Hill (Danehill {USA}).

Akicita ran second in a 950-metre trial at Traralgon on July 19.

Jye McNeil has been engaged for the colt’s debut.

Pearl Crescent is the first foal of a Listed victress.

Pearl Crescent will make her debut in the hands of Craig Newitt.
