Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Saturday will see the return of a promising filly at Caulfield and the debut of a well-bred galloper at Newcastle.

Caulfield, Race 7, 3.25pm AEST, G3 Quezette S., $200,000, 1100m

Zousuko, 3-year-old filly (Zoustar x Tetsuko {I Am Invincible})

The John McArdle-trained Zousuko, a daughter of the champion sire Zoustar, is set to kick off her 3-year-old preparation at Caulfield in the G3 Quezette S. on Saturday.

Zousuko showed talent as a juvenile, placing in the G3 Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies).

She is the fifth foal from the I Am Invincible mare Tetsuko. She was placed in the Listed Gimcrack S. and the G2 Sweet Embrace S.

Zousuko hails from the family of Entisaar (More Than Ready {USA}), who was crowned the Champion 2-Year-Old Filly in South Africa in 2014/15. Furthermore, this is the family of Mizlecki (Lope De Vega {Ire}), who won at the Listed level four times.

The filly was a $525,000 purchase by Redgum Racing from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Forbidden Apple, 3-year-old filly (The Autumn Sun x Tsaritsa {Dane Shadow})

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable are set to debut Forbidden Apple, a daughter of The Autumn Sun.

The filly is the third foal from the Dane Shadow mare Tsaritsa. She was a four-time winner, taking out the G2 Queensland Guineas.

Forbidden Apple comes from the family of Ninth Legion (Fastnet Rock). He won the G2 Villiers S. among his eight victories. Furthermore, this is the family of Tell A Tale (Tale Of The Cat {USA}) who won the G1 New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas.

The filly was a $300,000 purchase by Bahen Bloodstock from the draft of Attunga Stud at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale.

Looking Back

Friday's selections went well. Chester Le Street (Ribchester {Ire}) won at Taree on debut, while Kahhof (Pierro) ran second at Ballarat on the synthetic and Moszur (Churchill {Ire}) was unplaced at Ipswich.
