2YO Trials Guide: the new generation of juveniles

The eagerly anticipated juvenile trials kick off this week with excitement at Randwick, with 12 trials to be held on the Kensington track. The Thoroughbred Report has compiled a quick reference guide on the vital sale and breeding information for each runner.

Trial Stats

The biggest stable representation: Annabel Neasham with 15 youngsters, Waterhouse and Bott (13) and the Snowdens (12).

The most expensive purchases: three Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale seven figure yearlings - the $1.6 million colt Bodyguard (I Am Invincible), the $1.2 million filly Invincible Madison (I Am Invincible) and the $1 million colt Espionage (Zoustar).

The three cheapest purchases include Back In A Tik (Frosted {USA}), a $6000 Inglis Premier purchase; Iceman (Rubick), a $10,000 weanling and $45,000 Inglis Classic yearling buy; Magical Moments (Winning Rupert), an $11,000 Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale purchase.

The most prolific buyers represented by triallers are the James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership, China Horse Club/Newgate/Go/Trilogy and, in various partnerships, Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott and Annabel Neasham.

The stallions with the most runners are Capitalist (7), I Am Invincible (6), and Justify (USA) and Trapeze Artist with four each.

Eleven first-season sires are represented including Blue Point (Ire) with three and Zousain, Pierata and Tassort with two each.

Four second-season sires have entries - Justify (USA) and Trapeze Artist with four each and one apiece for Prized Icon and Written By.

Heat 1 - 8.45am AEST, 850m

Bosustow (Blue Point {Ire} x Bumbasina {Ire} {Canford Cliffs {Ire}}): a half-brother to Amelia’s Jewel (Siyouni {Ire}) purchased from Segenhoe Stud by the Rosemont Alliance, Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA) and Annabel Neasham for $900,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Embassy (I Am Invincible x Dendee {Denman}): a Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale $625,000 purchase from Yarraman for China Horse Club, Newgate Bloodstock, Go Bloodstock and Trilogy, he is out of a Listed winner.

Iceman (Rubick x Ice Girl {Bel Esprit}): first foal for a city winner from the family of the Group 1 winners Titanic Jack (Encosta De Lago) and Sober Suit (Noalcoholic {Fr}). Sold at Inglis by Fernrigg Farm as a weanling for $10,000 to Grange Bloodstock and by Valiant Stud to Victory Lodge for $45,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Roselyn’s Star (Shalaa {Ire} x Dual Star {Starcraft {NZ}}): this colt is out of a stakes-placed brother to the stakes-placed Shalstar, her third dam is the G1 Blue Diamond S. winner True Jewels (Brief Truce {USA}). Purchased from Arrowfield by the John O’ Shea Racing Ladies Syndicate for $220,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Shalaa Gold (Shalaa {Ire} x Murtle Turtle {Murtajill}): out of a two-time Group 3-placed dam of three winners, he was sold by Emirates to Bjorn Baker Racing / Clarke Bloodstock (FBAA) for $220,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Straight Charge (Written By x Matryoshka {I Am Invincible}): second foal for a half-sister to the Group winners Winning Rupert and Tycoon Evie (Written Tycoon), a $160,000 Inglis Weanling Sale graduate sold by Twin Hills to Moroney Bloodstock and Pegasus Bloodstock, reoffered by Lime Country at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale - sold to Yulong for $270,000.

Warhol (I Am Invincible x Danish Spy {Dane Shadow}): a Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale $750,000 purchase for China Horse Club, Newgate, Go Bloodstock and Trilogy from Yarraman, he is out of the Group 2-placed dam of the G2 BRC Sires' Produce S. winner Strasbourg.

Glassout (Headwater x High Gloss {All American}): from the same branch of the Denise's Joy (Seventh Hussar {Fr}) family of the G1 Robert Sangster victress Secret Agenda (Not A Single Doubt), she was purchased from Davali Thoroughbreds for $180,000 by Brad Widdup Racing at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Howler (Hellbent x Kyoto Moon {Makfi {GB}}): the first foal from a half-sister to the G3 Standish H. winner Odyssey Moon was sold by Vinery to Devcich Bloodstock for $50,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions National Weanling and by Henley Park to BK Racing for $220,000 at the 2023 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Lady Of Camelot (Written Tycoon x Miss Debutante {Fastnet Rock}): a homebred for Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock out of the Listed-winning dam of the Group 3 winners Queen Of The Ball (I Am Invincible) and Platinum Jubilee (Zoustar).

Magical Moments (Winning Rupert x Magical Charge {Magic Albert}): purchased from Middlebrook Valley Lodge by Darby Racing for $11,000 at the Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale, she is out of a city winning half-sister to the Group 3-placed Niccovi (Nicconi).

Mrs Maree (Written Tycoon x Exceeds {Snitzel}): sold by Twin Hills to Clarry Conners for $500,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, she is out of a placed city winner from the family of the G1 Epsom H., winner Rock Kingdom (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}).

Desert Legend (Zousain x Emirates Comfort {Ire} {Dubawi {Ire}}): out of an imported daughter of the G1 Beverly D S. winner Royal Highness (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}) from the family of the US Champion Turf Male Yibir (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), he was sold by Twin Hills to Legend Racing for $50,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Fearless (Pierata x Matildare {Rothesay}): another James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership purchase - from Highgrove Stud for $220,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, he hails from the prolific Group 1 family of Starspangledbanner, Haradasun, Highland Reel (Ire), Amicus (Fastnet Rock) and Elvstroem.

French Empire (Justify {USA} x Champagne Cuddles {Not A Single Doubt}): bought by Annabel Neasham for $700,000 from the Kia Ora Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft, he is the first foal for his G2 Breeders’ Classic and the G3 Gold Coast Guineas-winning dam whose dam is the G1 Emirates S. winner Sky Cuddle (Snippets).

Legs Power (Singing {Fr} x Yola Power {Husson {Arg}}): a homebred for Power Thoroughbreds by a Listed Gosford Cup-winning son of Singspiel (Ire), he is out of an unraced mare from the family of the Champion US mare Go For Wand (USA) (Deputy Minister {Can}).

Prost (Snitzel x Samarmeteors {Northern Meteor}): sold by Baramul to Kia Ora Stud, TFI, Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott for $650,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, he is out of a city-winning half-sister to the G1 Blue Diamond S. victress Samaready (More Than Ready {USA}), dam of this year's G1 Golden Slipper winner Shinzo (Snitzel) and the Group winners Exhilarates (Snitzel) and Night War (General Nediym).

Revolt (Russian Revolution x Hot Summer Night {Fusaichi Pegasus {USA}}): a $500,000 purchase price secured this half-brother to the G2 Angus Armanasco S. winner Summer Sham (Not A Single Doubt) for Kia Ora Stud, TFI and Ryan Alexiou Racing from the Vinery draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. He hails from the same family as his great-grandsire Redoute's Choice.

Celestial Bling (Capitalist x Starry {Exceed And Excel}): the second foal for a winning three-quarter sister to the G2 VRC Sires' Produce S. winner Zululand, she was bred by Belinda Bateman and consigned by Newgate Farm at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where she was purchased for $300,000 by Trilogy Racing and, Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott Racing.

Lavishness (So You Think {NZ} x Opulence Start {Lonhro}): purchased by trainer Ben Smith for $70,000 from the Newhaven Inglis Premier Yearling Sale draft, she is out of a half-sister to the G3 Cockram S. winner Octavia (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}), dam of the G3 Bletchingly S. winner King Of Sparta (I Am Invincible).

Needing Attention (Zousain x Seeking Attention {Exceed And Excel}): a homebred for J S Mackay, she is out of a stakes-placed dam of the South African based Listed winner Buckinghampsire (Lonhro) and the Group 3-placed Cautious (Lonhro).

Totoka (Brutal {NZ} x Sports Writer {Written Tycoon}): offered by Kingstar Farm at the 2023 Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale and purchased for $46,000 by Paul Perry, he is out of a full sister to the speedy triple Listed winner It Is Written.

Highness (Snitzel x Diana’s Star {Northern Meteor}): out of a half-sister to the Australian Horse of the Year Dissident, he was consigned by Segenhoe Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where he made $900,000 to the bid of the James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership.

Inception (Russian Revolution x Imaginative {Bianconi {USA}}): making his way through the sales ring on two occasions, he was sold by Ballygrove Stud to Musk Creek Farm for $220,000 as a weanling at Inglis National Weanling Sale and by them to Darby Racing and De Burgh Equine for $190,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. He is a half-brother to to the Listed Challenge S. winner Creative Hero (More Than Ready {USA}) out of a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winner Old Comrade (Old Spice).

Peace By The River (Lonhro x Swift Chick {Fastnet Rock}): out of a daughter of the South African Group 3 winner Sweet Sanette (Saf) (Jallad {USA}), dam of the Group 3 placed city winner Sweet Rockette (Fastnet Rock). First bought by Waltrin for $90,000 as a Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, he was then purchased by Ben Smith for $160,000 at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Pierant (Pierro x Flamboyant Lass {Stratum}): his Group 2-placed dam has produced the stakes-placed Nitrous (Deep Field) and she is a full sister to the dual Group winner Attention. He was a $190,000 purchase by Triple Crown Syndications from the Newgate Farm draft at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Lady Tassort (Tassort x Ice Cream Lady {Not A Single Doubt}): passed in as a yearling having sold for $40,000 by Bell River to T Rook at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale, she hails from the family of the G1 QTC Sires' Produce S. winner Aragen (Rory's Jester).

Repose (Russian Revolution x River Serenade {Hurricane Sky}): the final foal produced by her dam, she is a half-sister to the Group 2 winners First Command (Commands) and Oneworld (Danehill Dancer {Ire}). Purchased for $200,000 by Annabel Neasham at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, her dam is a full sister to the Group 1 sprinter River Dove.

Shivermepink (Zoustar x Pretty In Pink {Sebring}): first foal for a Listed Woodlands S. winner from the family of the dual G1 WS Cox Plate champion Fields Of Omagh (Rubiton). She was purchased by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and Kestrel Thoroughbreds for $520,000 from the Segenhoe Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft.

Bodyguard (I Am Invincible x Tumooh {Fastnet Rock}): the morning's most expensive purchase - $1.6 million from the Emirates draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for the James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership, he is a grandson of the G1 Golden Slipper S. heroine Mossfun (Mossman).

Counteroffensive (Deep Field x Victory Cry {General Nediym}): the final foal for his dam whose five winners including the the G1 Cape Flying Championship in Kenilworth winner Run Fox Run (Foxwedge) and the Listed Heritage S. winner Guard Of Honour (Northern Meteor). He was purchased by the China Horse Club, Newgate, Go Bloodstock and Trilogy for $425,000 from the Mill Park Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft.

Espionage (Zoustar x In Times Of War {Street Cry {Ire}}): a $1 million Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduate purchased from Baramul by the James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership, he is out of a city winning daughter of the G2 Reisling S. and the R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Military Rose (General Nediym).

Setta Icon (Prized Icon x Setta Rocks {Fastnet Rock}): bred by Kooringal Stud and T Bertuccio, who remains a co-owner, he is out of a seven times winner from the family of the G1 Irish Derby winner Jack Hobbs (GB).

True Amor (I Am Invincible x My True Love {Fastnet Rock}): a $550,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduate out of a two times Group placed city winning daughter of the G3 Jansz S. winner Lectrice (Encosta De Lago) from the family of the exciting Benedetta (Hellbent), he was offered by Lustre Lodge and knocked down to Kitchwin Hills.

Gerace (Menari x Lionel Left Me {Casino Prince}): sadly her sire died just recently. Her dam is a city winning half-sister to the G3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup winner Amovatio (Al Maher). Sold by Bowness Stud for $50,000 at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, she was purchased Ben Smith.

Miss Tunarama (Justify {USA} x Arinosa {Dash For Cash}): a homebred for the Puglisi family, she is out of a triple Group winning half-sister to the G2 Euclase S. winner Sweet Sherry (Bel Esprit).

Runaway Vixen (Zoustar x Fox Swift {Foxwedge}): is the second foal for a Listed Cap D’Antibes S. winning granddaughter of the NZ Champion 3YO Sprinter Pay My Bail (NZ) (Justice Prevails). She was offered by Widden Stud and purchased for $370,000 by Bennett Racing, Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott Racing at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Shezasiren (Yes Yes Yes x Siren’s Song {Ire} {Azamour {Ire}}): sold by Parsons Creek to Marc Conners for $35,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, she is out of an imported stakes winning half-sister to the dual Group winner Centennial (Ire) (Dalakhani {Ire}) from a prolific Group 1 family.

Umabett (Better Than Ready x Umawinner {Real Saga}): bred by Yarramalong and not going through the sales, she is out of a two times winner whose dam is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Umanugget (Mossman).

Erno’s Cube (Rubick x Long Wink {Stratum}): Ciaron Maher Bloodstock paid $230,000 for her from the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft of Edinglassie Thoroughbreds. Her grandam is the Listed Dark Jewel Classic winner Romare (Marscay), dam of the Listed Debutant S. winner Eramor (Stratum).
