G3 Sandown S., $200,000, 1500m
The Tony Gollan-trained Antino (NZ) (Redwood {GB}) continued his rise through the ranks by taking out the G3 Sandown S. on Sunday.
The 5-year-old gelding put a horror first-up run at Flemington behind him with a fairly comfortable success at Sandown-Hillside.
Antino is the seventh and best produce from the Bahhare (USA) mare Mahamaya (NZ). She was unraced but is the daughter of Listed winner Shock Attack (NZ) (Inviting {Ire}) and a full sister to the Group 1 winner Hurrah (NZ) and the Hong Kong Listed winner Carlisle Bay (NZ).
Antino sold for just NZ$27,000 at the 2020 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale to New Balance Racing after being prepared by Cheltenham Stables.
Redwood (GB), a son of High Chaparral (Ire), will stand for NZ$10,000 plus GST at Westbury Stud this season.
