Benedetta pleases Stackhouse
Daniel Stackhouse travelled to Sydney on Friday morning to give the Jason Warren-trained Benedetta (Hellbent) a spin around Randwick.
It was the first time Benedetta had galloped clockwise officially in the opening heat over 850 metres where she finished third to Insurrection (Russian Revolution).
“She trialled well,” Stackhouse told Racing.com.
“I thought her action was good and she got around the Sydney way very well.
“I thought the more she was getting into the trial the better she was and she pulled up a treat.”
Roman Consul has Field excited
Saturday’s G2 Roman Consul S. has Henry Field, managing director of Newgate Stud excited over the prospects of the unbeaten Ozzmosis (Zoustar), King’s Gambit (I Am Invincible) and Celestial Legend (Dundeel {NZ}) at Rosehill.
“The race reminds me of the Roman Consul in 2016 when Russian Revolution defeated Astern and Capitalist,” Field told Punters.
“All three of those colts were proper Group 1 sprinters and that was a great race.

“I think you will find on Saturday the likes of King’s Gambit, Ozzmosis and Celestial Legend will prove to be of Group 1 quality.
“I do feel Celestial Legend has a massive chance of winning this race, he’s a very good horse.
“But we will look back on this race between Ozzmosis, King’s Gambit and Celestial Legend and say this was a Roman Consul for the ages.”
Blackiston hopeful with Subrising
The G2 Edward Manifold S. at Flemington will see Nigel Blackiston’s promising filly Subrising (Needs Further) step out.
The daughter of Needs Further has won once from five starts and was only 2l from the winner in the Listed Jim Moloney S. last start.
“She’s a really nice filly but there's a bunch of nice fillies around so you’ve got to have a healthy respect for what you’re taking on,” Blackiston told Punters.
“You hope for the best and that it all falls into place.
“I think she’ll definitely win one of these races but whether it’s now or in the autumn, will be up to her and she will be a nice filly.”
Skew Wiff to make a mark in Melbourne
The lightly raced Skew Wiff (NZ) (Savabeel) will look to build on her trainer Mark Walker’s super record in Melbourne since establishing a stable at Cranbourne.
The last-start Group 1 victress will contest the G2 Rose Of Kingston S. at Flemington on Saturday.
Although her task was made a touch harder when she incurred a 3.5kg penalty for being a Group 1 winner in the set-weights and penalties race for the mares.

“She’s a mare that has a real short sprint on her, but it’s a sharp sprint,” Walker told RSN.
“It only goes for about 200 metres, so it’s all about getting your timing right.
“We have great respect for the Australian form, but they’ll know she’s there even though she has to carry that weight penalty being a Group 1 winner now.
“She’s quite a promising horse and still only lightly raced.”
Makarena tackles Saturday league
The Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes-trained Makarena (Snitzel) will look to emulate star filly Opal Ridge (Rubick) by winning the $500,000 Tapp-Craig on Saturday at Rosehill.
The Tapp-Craig will serve as Makarena’s third career start. However, Michael Hawkes is not worried, telling RSN, “We’re taking on the Saturday league but it’s a good money race and she’s got a very bright future. She’s a very good filly,” he said.
“She should have won first-up when she ran second, then won really well last start when she probably did it back-to-front.”
Untapped mare ready to fly
Cranbourne-based trainer Grahame Begg is excited to have C’Est Magique (Zoustar) returned to the Flemington straight in the G2 Gilgai S.
As a 3-year-old filly the daughter of Zoustar was placed in the G1 Coolmore Stud S. behind The Everest contenders In Secret (I Am Invincible) and Buenos Noches (Supido).

“We were very happy with her run first-up in the Cockram as she was quite underdone going into the run,” Begg told RSN.
“We gave her a month between runs, and she had a jump-out last week at Cranbourne. She’s in very good shape and she’s still got a bit of improvement to come, but getting her back up the straight, it’s the right way to go.”
Nashwa to remain in training
Imad Al Sagar's Blue Diamond Stud silks will be carried by his star filly Nashwa (GB) (Frankel {GB}) for another year, but the multiple Group 1 winner will skip the Breeders' Cup in favour of competing at QIPCO British Champions Day later this month, The Sun reported on Thursday.
Both the one-mile G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. or the G1 QIPCO Champion S. are under consideration for the 4-year-old at Ascot on October 21. Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the regular mount of Hollie Doyle was third in last year's G1 Oaks before taking the French equivalent and the G1 Nassau S. and running second in the G1 Prix de l'Opera. Fourth in the GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf last November, Nashwa added a second at Group 3 level in June before padding her Group 1 resume in the Falmouth S. in July. She has run third in both the G1 Nassau S. and the G1 Irish Champion S. in her last three starts, with a second in the G1 International S. in late August in between.

Al Sagar told The Sun's Matt Chapman, “Nashwa is heading to Ascot and is entered in both the QEII and Champion. She will run on one or the other.
“There will be no Breeders' Cup for her but Ascot is not her last race. She will train on as a 5-year-old.”
Onesto possible for Champions Day
After his strong third in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Sunday, the connections of Onesto (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) were thinking Breeders' Cup, and now QIPCO Champions Day is also on the table as long as the ground isn't too soft, trainer Fabrice Chappet revealed on Thursday.
Raced by Gerard Augustin-Normand, the 4-year-old won the G1 Grand Prix de Paris last year and was also second in the G1 Champion S. during a campaign that took him from France to Ireland and Japan. He returned this term with a fourth in the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois this August and a seventh in the G1 Irish Champion S. in September prior to his good run at ParisLongchamp. His target is the G1 QIPCO Champion S.
Chappet said, “It depends on the ground. We are keeping an eye on the British Champion in case the ground will be suitable, good or good to soft. He would not go if it's softer than that, otherwise he will go to the Breeders' Cup.
Slow Down Andy out of Breeders' Cup
Slow Down Andy (USA) (Nyquist {USA}), front-running winner of Saturday's GI Awesome Again S. at Santa Anita, will miss the GI Breeders' Cup Classic November 4, according to a report in Daily Racing Form. Although he was sound following the Awesome Again, the 4-year-old came out of the race with some filling in his ankle and will get 60 days off.
The Awesome Again was Slow Down Andy's first Grade 1 win and earned him a paid berth into the Classic as it was a “Win and You're In” race. He got a 101 Beyer Speed Figure for the effort.
Trainer Doug O'Neill conditions Slow Down Andy for Reddam Racing, LLC. The team plans to bring the chestnut back for a 5-year-old campaign.
New trainers for Wertheimer Et Frere
Wertheimer and Frere will add two new trainers to its team this year in the form of Yann Barberot in Deauville and Christopher Head in Chantilly, their manager Pierre-Yves Bureau told the Jour de Galop on Thursday.
The two have enjoyed success on French and European racecourses this past season. Their addition to the training ranks comes after the brothers' addition of the Wildenstein Family's Dayton Investments bloodstock portfolio this past August. Bureau also told the JDG that they would be retaining their existing trainers; Andre Fabre, who currently has 22 horses for them at Chantilly; Christophe Ferland, 31 at Chantilly; Carlos Laffon-Parias, also 31 at Chantilly; and Edouard Montfort, with nine at Luche-Pringe, according to the JDG. The 2022 yearlings are expected to join their trainers' strings next week, the JDG reports.
