Looking Ahead - October 14

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

A son of Pierata will look to bring his first-season sire a winner; at the same time, a son of Spirit Of Boom will look to continue that sire's outstanding juvenile record at Eagle Farm. While at Newcastle, a well-related son of Per Incanto (USA) steps out on debut.

Werther was crowned Horse of the Year and Champion Middle Distance in Hong Kong in 2015/16. His full sister, Toffee Tongue, claimed the G1 Australasian Oaks.

Rolling Magic was a $100,000 purchase by Will Freedman from the draft of Sledmere Stud at the 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Rockrata, 2-year-old colt (Pierata x Rock Robster {Fastnet Rock})

Rockrata will line up for start two at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Although Rockrata’s dam won an Oaks, the family has plenty of precocity with the stakes-winning juveniles - Sun City and his dam Roulettes (Flying Spur) featured prominently on the page.

Rockrata was sold by Glastonbury Farms at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale to ASW Bloodstock for $120,000.

Reoffered at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Kia Ora, the colt made significantly less when selling to Tom Button for $60,000.

Looking Back

Friday's selections had little luck. Heart Of Glass (Impending) was scratched from Tatura when that meeting was abandoned due to wet patches on the course, while All Hands (NZ) (U S Navy Flag {USA}) was unplaced at Cranbourne.
