Randwick held 10 trials on Friday morning, which saw the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable out in force.
Waterhouse and Bott’s Tulloch Lodge saddled up 15 runners on Friday and walked away with four victories, including a trifecta in the juvenile trial.
Triple treat
The most intriguing trial of the morning was arguably Heat 8, which saw eight juveniles face the starter over 742 metres.
The Waterhouse and Bott stable were well represented with three runners - Catoggio (Written Tycoon), Manuscript (Written By) and Chateau Miraval (Zousain).
It was in that order that the trio crossed the line. Tim Clark took the reins on Catoggio and settled outside the stablemate Chateau Miraval, ridden by Adam Hyeronimus.
Clark, never overriding Catoggio, slipped the colt some rein as he powered away from his stablemate. At the same time, Manuscript made up plenty of ground under Regan Bayliss to get within 0.38l of the winner.
Catoggio is a son of Yulong’s Champion Sire Written Tycoon.
The colt is the third foal from the Conatus mare Palazzo Pubblico. She won seven races, including the Listed Alinghi S. and the Listed Bright Shadow H.

Catoggio is a half-brother to Palazzo Spirit (Spirit Of Boom), a victor of the Listed Phelan Ready S.
The colt was a $450,000 purchase by the Rosemont Alliance and Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA) from the draft of Baramul Stud at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The first and second horses also carry plenty of intrigue.
The second-season sire, Written By, is the sire of Manuscript, an $85,000 purchase by Tricolours Racing & Syndications.
Manuscript is from the Group 3-placed 2-year-old Sugarparma (Snitzel).

Chateau Miraval, from the first crop of Zousain, is also from a Group 3-placed Snitzel mare, Shelia’s Star.
The colt is a half-brother to the G2 Furious S. victress North Star Lass (Zoustar); she was also placed in the G1 Flight S.
Yulong paid $650,000 to secure Chateau Miraval from the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Waterhouse and Bott also succeeded with I’mintownin (NZ) (Contributer {Ire}) in Heat 4, Rocketeer Girl (Smart Missile) in Heat 6 and Zouphoria (Zoustar) in Heat 7.
Darby nabs two
Scott Darby’s Darby Racing enjoyed a productive Friday morning.
The organisation was represented by two winners starting in Heat 3 over 1045 metres with Insurrection (Russian Revolution).
The 4-year-old, trained by Michael Freedman, has been in good form, winning three of his four starts earlier in the year, and was recently a victor of a trial that included The Everest placegetter Private Eye (Al Maher) and the star mare Benedetta (Hellbent).

Insurrection, ridden by Zac Lloyd on Friday, narrowly denied the talented pair of Chrysaor (Better Than Ready) and Hilal (Fastnet Rock).
Insurrection’s win was followed by the Kiwi import I’mintowin.
Waterhouse and Bott train the 4-year-old son of Contributer (Ire), and he is yet to race in Australia.
I’mintowin was third in the G3 Bonecrusher S. and fourth in the Listed Uncle Remus at Pukekohe.

The gelding, ridden by Clark, put a 0.61l margin on Miss Hellfire (Hellbent) and Delexo (Exosphere).
Muse back in the groove and Legend one to watch
Les Bridge was represented by the unraced Mambo Legend (Extreme Choice). Before joining Bridge, Richard and Will Freedman trained the 3-year-old colt raced by Legend Racing.
Partnered by Kerrin McEvoy in Heat 5 over 1045 metres, the colt was a 0.94l winner over Nicci’s Gem (Nicconi).

Mambo Legend was a $475,000 purchase by Legend Racing from the draft of Segenhoe Stud at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
While in Heat 9 over 742 metres, we saw the return of Michael Freedman’s high-quality filly Mumbai Muse (Zoustar).
The speedy filly won from Power Ballard (Exceed And Excel) and Prima Bella (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}).

Mumbai Muse was fourth in the G2 Silver Shadow S. and then placed third in the G2 Furious S. behind Tiz Invincible (I Am Invincible) before looking to find the stretch to 1400 metres in the G2 Tea Rose a tad too much when she was unplaced.
