Looking Ahead - December 3

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Our Looking Ahead selections on Sunday are spread across the Hawkesbury meeting in New South Wales. Among them is an $800,000 daughter of Australia's reigning Champion Sire I Am Invincible.

Monte Supreme, 3-year-old filly (I Am Invincible x Sassy ‘N’ Smart {Smart Missile})

Kembla Grange-based father and son training duo Robert and Luke Price will debut an expensive daughter of Australia’s reigning Champion Sire I Am Invincible, Monte Supreme, at Hawkesbury on Sunday.

The filly is the third foal from the Smart Missile mare Sassy ‘N’ Smart. She was a dual winner as a juvenile, claiming the Listed Welcome S. and placing in the G2 Matamata Breeders’ S.

Sassy ‘N’ Smart is a half-sister to the well-performed Mallory (Not A Single Doubt), a victress of the G3 Widden S. and placegetter in the G2 Tea Rose S. and the G3 Gimcrack S. among others.

Monte Supreme’s third dam Nebraska Tornado (USA) (Storm Cat {USA}), a winner of the G1 Prix de Diana and the G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp in France, is a half-sister to the dam of the brilliant G1 Irish Derby victor Westover (GB).

Monte Supreme cost Roughwood Park $800,000 from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Ichika, 3-year-old filly (Maurice {Jpn} x Only Roses {Redoute’s Choice})

Fourth on debut behind the mighty impressive The Hawkesbury (Frankel {GB}) at Kembla Grange, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Ichika will look to improve at start two at Hawkesbury on Sunday.

The filly is bred on the same Maurice (Jpn)/Redoute’s Choice cross as the multiple Group 1 winner and Arrowfield stallion Hitotsu. Ichika is the fifth foal from the winning Redoute’s Choice mare Only Roses, a half-sister to the 16-time winner The Inevitable (Dundeel {NZ}).
