On Friday morning, there was a handful of juvenile trials around New South Wales. Kembla Grange held two heats, while Beaumont-Newcastle hosted three events.
Newgate Farm's first-season sire Brutal (NZ) was represented by two fillies, whose prospects looked bright when they hit the line strongly in their respective events.
Harlem Queen chases hard
The Mark Minervini-trained Shall Be (Shalaa {Ire}) had enough space between himself and the charging Harlem Queen (Brutal {NZ}) to win Heat 12 at Beaumont-Newcastle.
Shall Be co-bred by Willow Park Stud, failed to meet his $40,000 reserve at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and was sold for $8000 to Minervini Racing and GB Bloodstock at the 2023 Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale.

The gelding is from the Not A Single Doubt mare Belle De Jeu (NZ), who won four races. Catching plenty of eyes was another daughter of Brutal, Harlem Queen, from the Nathan Doyle stable.
Harlem Queen is the fifth foal from the Fastnet Rock mare Harlem River. She won the Listed Tattersall’s S. as a juvenile and placed in the Listed Woodlands and the G3 Thoroughbred Club S.
The daughter of Brutal cost the Calibre Racing Group $180,000 when offered by Newgate Farm at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Harlem Queen comes from the family of Yes Yes Yes, the Champion 3-Year-Old Colt in Australia courtesy of his The Everest victory in 2019 and the multiple Group 1 winner In Her Time (Time Thief).
Brutal’s Eyes rattles home
Local trainer Paul Perry enjoyed a productive Friday morning with three of his runners saluting in heats at Beaumont-Newcastle. The first of Perry’s winners came in Heat 11 when Flying Argyle (Flying Artie) sprinted well enough to hold off a fast-finishing The Eyes Have It, a daughter of Newgate Farm’s first-season sire Brutal, while the Exceedance filly Hvardance held third.
Flying Argyle was an astute $10,000 purchase by Paul Perry Horse Training from the draft of Riversdale at the 2023 Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale. The colt is from the More Than Ready (USA) mare More Than Jewels, who hails from the family of the Group 2 winner Snitty Kitty (Snitzel).

Her dam, the Leroidesanimaux (Brz) mare Katie’s Eyes (USA), won the Listed Giant’s Causeway S. at Keeneland and the Listed Unbridled Sidney S. at Churchill Downs and was placed in the G2 Beaumont S.

Filly makes a Statement
The Matthew Smith-trained Runranirun (Press Statement) made a splash at Kembla Grange on Friday morning when she ran out an impressive 4.8l winner in the 800-metre heat on the Heavy 9 track.
Heat 5 isn’t the first time the juvenile filly has impressed trial onlookers. Runranirun first appeared at Warwick Farm in December, where she ran out a 1.18l winner. Bred in partnership with S M O’Gorman and co-owner D J Faithfull, Runranirun was not offered at public auction.
Her dam Marju Rani (NZ) (Marju {Ire}) won as a juvenile, and her nine foals to race have produced eight winners led by the Krupt mare Rebel Miss, who won five races. Marju Rani is a half-sister to Queenie (NZ) (Black Minnaloushe {USA}), the dam of the G3 Gunsynd Classic victor Trump (Written Tycoon) and the grandam of the progressive Run Harry Run (Written Tycoon), who claimed the G3 Blue Sapphire S. in the spring.
Finishing adrift of Runranirun was the Annabel Neasham-trained pair Rampazetto (Written By) and Livewire Lass (Trapeze Artist).
Rampazetto is from the unraced Star Witness mare Ruby Flo, a half-sister to Widden Stud’s freshman sire Dirty Work.

Rampazetto was a $150,000 purchase by Laurel Oak Bloodstock (FBAA) from the draft of Widden Stud at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. His stablemate, Livewire Lass, is a full sister to Flying Trapeze, who has won twice and placed in two Listed races.
Their dam, the Bernardini (USA) mare Coromandel, is a full sister to Toydini, a victor of the G2 Phar Lap S. and the G2 Crystal Mile.
Livewire Lass was a $120,000 purchase by First Light Racing and Annabel Neasham Racing from the draft of Widden Stud at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Brazen colt prevails
A small field of four juveniles stepped out for Heat 6, the final trial for 2-year-olds on Friday morning at Kembla Grange. The 800-metre event was won comfortably by the Blake Ryan-trained Asuriito, a son of Darley’s Brazen Beau.
The colt scored by 1.3l from Donwon (Magna Grecia {Ire}) and Stallone (Extreme Choice), while the Hellbent filly Sugarfire rounded out the field.
Asuriito is the first foal from the unraced Maxios (GB) mare Realms Of Light (Ger). She was purchased by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) from the 2019 Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale for €115,000 (AU$187,700) and resold for $290,000 to Neil Jenkinson Bloodstock at the 2021 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Asuriito was withdrawn from the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale by Vinery Stud and offered at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale by them, where he was passed in for $80,000.
Ridgmont Farm then consigned the son of Brazen Beau at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold National Yearling Sale, where Blake Ryan Racing paid $25,000.
Donwon, who finished second, is from the first crop of Coolmore’s Magna Grecia (Ire) and is from the four-time-winning Snitzel mare Minnesota.
A further 4.1l away was the Neasham-trained Stallone, the third foal from the unraced Medaglia D’Oro (USA) mare Good Looking Mare, who is from the family of the G1 Arkansas Derby winner Bodemeister (USA) and the G2 Summertime Oaks victress Under The Stars (USA) (Pioneerof The Nile {USA}).

Kiwi-bred gets the job done

Aroha Stone is from Makfi (GB) mare Luminescent (NZ), a daughter of Illuminates (Strategic), a victress of 10 races, including the Listed Angst Quality H.. and the Listed Toy Show Quality H.
Luminescent is a full sister to the Listed winner Hursley (NZ).
Aroha Stone is from the family Ripcord (Written By), who placed in the G1 Winterbottom S. and Faraway Town (Not A Single Doubt), a three-time winner and placegetter in the G1 Sires’ Produce S.

From the Paul Perry stable, the American Pharoah (USA) filly Tampa Bay finished second, narrowly behind Aroha Stone. She was followed by Rivana (Capitalist) and Chillcuz (Churchill {Ire}).
The Kristen Buchanan-trained Winning Proposal (Shalaa {Ire}) hit the line strongly without much persuasion. His dam, the More Than Ready (USA) mare Proposal, is a daughter of the G1 Doncaster H. and the G1 Myer Classic victress Sacred Choice (Choisir).
Winning Proposal was purchased for $50,000 by Vardy Thoroughbreds from the draft of Vinery Stud at the 2023 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.
