It was straight to the lead for Renegade Rebel (NZ) (El Roca) and that is where the lightly raced and promising 3-year-old remained - defying all late challenges to record his second determined victory in a row.
Stepping up in class off his similar (leading, showing fight when tackled) maiden victory at Tauranga in mid-December, Renegade Rebel is the 10th stakes winner for his Westbury Stud-based sire, a dual Listed winning son of Fastnet Rock.
Bred by Denise Howell, he was sold by Westbury to DJ Miller for NZ$40,000 at the 2022 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale (Book 2). His dam is the five-times winner Regalia (NZ) (Duelled) who has produced another three winners amongst her first five foals.
Due to have foaled last spring (no Stud Book update as yet) to Embellish (NZ), she was not served the previous season with her latest recorded foal being the yet to race 2-year-old My Girl Alice (NZ) (Vadamos {Fr}).
A metropolitan-class mare, Regalia is one of the nine winners produced by the two-times winner Palace Bound (NZ) (Palace Music {USA}), also dam of the stakes-placed Amarantha (NZ) (Van Nistelrooy {USA}), grandam of the G3 Gunsynd Classic winner Trump (Written Tycoon) and great-grandam of last year’s G3 Blue Sapphire S. winner Run Harry Run (Written Tycoon).
Palace Bound’s stakes-placed dam Kiwi Magic (NZ) (Vice Regal {NZ}) was also an excellent producer with her nine winners including the dual Group 1 winner Flitter (NZ) (Bluebird {USA}) and the Singapore based stakes winner My Royal Captain (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}). Kiwi Magic is also ancestress of the stakes winners Jessy Belle (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}), Ringerdingding, Shawla (NZ) (O’Reilly {NZ}) and Marheta (Al Maher).
Renegade Rebel is bred on a 3 X 4 two male lines cross of Danehill (USA) and from the 1024 runners and 508 winners bred that way, he is the 17th stakes winner. He is also line-bred to Sir Tristram (Ire) and Nijinsky (Can) whilst also carrying a strain of the latter’s three-quarter brother The Minstrel (Can).
