G2 Waikato Guineas, NZ$160,000, 2000m
Lifting late to put his nose out where it counted, Ascend The Throne (NZ) (Savabeel) did a great job stepping up in class having only just broken his maiden (over the same 2000-metre journey) three weeks ago.
The 139th stakes winner for his Waikato-based sire, the G1 New Zealand Derby bound gelding was bred by Tony Rider and sold by Milan Park to David Ellis CNZM (BAFNZ) for NZ$575,000 at the 2022 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale.
He is one of the three winners produced by the metropolitan placed three times winner Thee Achiever (NZ) (O'Reilly {NZ}), also dam of the three times Group placed two times winner Achieve (NZ) (Pierro).
A member of the prolific 'The' family which has been so well represented at the elite level by the likes of The Jewel (NZ) (O'Reilly{NZ}), The Chosen One (NZ), La Diosa (NZ) (So You Think {NZ}), The Perfect Pink (NZ) (Savabeel), The Phantom (NZ) (Noble Bijou {USA}), The Phantom Chance (NZ) (Noble Bijou {USA}), The Twinkle (NZ) (Gatekeeper {GB}), Irish Chance (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}) and He's A Doozy (NZ) (Zacinto {GB}), Ascend The Throne is by Savabeel out of a mare by O'Reilly (NZ) out of a mare by Centaine - a pedigree pattern which has produced six stakes winners, four of whom have been successful at Group 1 level.
