Listed WA Breeders' Classic, $125,000, 1208m
With form around some of the state's better 3-year-olds, it was no surprise to see Petula (Nicconi) storming home out wide to record her first win at stakes level; and her third overall from seven starts.
Bred by J and, M Equine she was sold by Macquarie Stud to Simon Miller Racing for $30,000 at the 2021 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale.
The 29th stakes winner for her Widden Victoria-based sire, she is the second foal produced by the five-time winning sprinter Run Sally Run (Ready's Image {USA}) who was also bred by J and M Equine.
Served last year by Casino Prince, she foaled a Headwater filly in 2022 having lost her 2021 colt by Stratum Star.
Run Sally Run is one of the six winners (from as many foals to race) for the Canterbury winner Danzability (Danehill Dancer {Ire}).
There is not a great deal of black type in this family, Petula's closest stakes-winning relation being her fourth dam's Listed Dunedin Guineas-winning half-brother Bruno (NZ) (Esquire).
Further back in her pedigree there is a rather handy one however - Petula's 10th dam Raphis (NZ) (Night Raid {GB}) being a full sister to the one and only Phar Lap (NZ).
