Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Three exciting juveniles are set to hit the track across Australia on Wednesday, including Super Seth and Blue Point (Ire) colts who go head-to-head at Hawkesbury and a well-bred Written Tycoon filly running at Sandown Lakeside.
Hawkesbury, Race 1, 1.45pm AEDT, HRC Motel 2YO Mdn Plate, $42,000, 1300m
Linebacker (NZ), 2-year-old colt (Super Seth x Garden Of Swans {GB} {Oasis Dream {GB}})
The well-related Linebacker (NZ) is set to debut over 1300 metres for Randwick trainer John O’Shea on the back of a trial win at Randwick on January 22 when winning over 850 metres.
Linebacker is a son of Waikato Stud’s exciting sire Super Seth and is the third foal from the Oasis Dream (GB) mare Garden Of Swans (GB). She was unraced on the track but was purchased by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock (BAFNZ) from the Tattersalls December Mare Sale for 160,000gns (AU$324,000) before making her way to New Zealand.

Linebacker’s second dam is the Timber Country (USA) mare Magic Tree (UAE), she was successful at stud leaving the high-class G1 Eclipse S. winner Mukhadram (GB). He now stands at stud in Italy.
Linebacker sold for NZ$160,000 at the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale to the bid of John O’Shea Racing and Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA) from the draft of Haunui Farm.
Garden Of Swans since producing Linebacker has a Super Seth yearling full brother, a Dundeel (NZ) weanling half-sister and unfortunately missed to Dundeel in the spring.

Bosustow, 2-year-old colt (Blue Point {Ire} x Bumbasina {Ire} {Canford Cliffs {Ire}})
Taking on Linebacker is the extremely well-bred Bosustow, who will be making his second career start over the 1300 metres for Warwick Farm trainer Annabel Neasham. On debut he ran a solid sixth placing in a strong race at Rosehill Gardens on January 20 behind Fully Lit (Hellbent). That form now looks strong with Fully Lit at her next start becoming a R. Listed winner in the Inglis Millennium.
Bosustow is a son of Darley’s promising shuttle sire Blue Point and is the third foal from the Canford Cliffs (Ire) mare Bumbasina (Ire). She was twice stakes-placed on the track in Ireland but her major claim to fame has been producing the superstar Perth filly Amelia’s Dream (Siyouni {Fr}) - who is currently a nine-race winner including the G1 Northerly S.

Bumbasina is also a half-sister to two-other stakes winners in Ireland including Epona Plays (Ire) (Australia {GB}) and Dolce Strega (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}).
Bosustow was a $900,000 purchase by the Rosemont Alliance, Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA) and Annabel Neasham Racing from Segenhoe's draft at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. After producing Bosustow, Bumbasina missed to both Deep Field and Capitalist within a season and was then exported to France on May 26, 2022.
Sportsbet Sandown Lakeside, Race 3, 4.50pm AEDT, Tobin Brothers Celebration Lives H., $55,000, 1000m
Little Stirrer, 2-year-old filly (Written Tycoon x Teaspoon {Snitzel})
The Flemington-based trainers Ben, Will and JD Hayes will prepare the well-bred filly Little Stirrer to make her second start at Sandown Lakeside on Wednesday after running fourth on debut at Caulfield late last year.
Little Stirrer is by Written Tycoon out of the Snitzel mare Teaspoon who was quick on the track and won two races at two including the G3 Widden S.
Teaspoon is also a full sister to Aliyana Tilde (Snitzel) who won the G2 Epona S. but also managed three Group 1 placings throughout her successful staying career. In addition to this, Teaspoon is a half-sister to two other stakes winners from the super producer Patronella (Mister C {USA}).

Other successful Group 1 performers in the family include globetrotting sprinter Zouologist (Zoustar) and the handy staying filly Noah ‘N’ A Deel (Maurice {Jpn}).
Teaspoon has unnamed yearling and weanling half-brothers both by Maurice (Jpn) and she was once again served by Arrowfield Stud’s star shuttler last spring.
Little Stirrer was a $500,000 purchase by Cambridge Stud at the 2023 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Arrowfield Stud.
Looking Back
Heavy rain fall saw Tuesday's Wyong meeting postponed due to the state of the track, therefore we will have to wait another day to see our three selections face the starter.
