A set of 14 trials were held at Warwick Farm on Monday morning, highlighted by the appearance of Everest winner Think About It and a number of Golden Slipper aspirants, who contested four 2-year-old heats during the session.

Mic-ed up

Darley’s first-season sire Microphone had a couple of impressive 2-year-old fillies step out at Warwick Farm on Monday morning.

The unraced pair Broadcast Boogie and Mic Drop both impressed in their respective heats.

Broadcast Boogie was a $200,000 buy out of the Yarraman Park draft at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and improved nicely in what was her third official trial.

She was able to put up a near 2l winning margin on Zielle (Denman) and Wholelottalove (Sooboog).

Broadcast Boogie is from the unraced Camelot (GB) mare Jive Dancing (GB) from the family of Underwood S. winner and Widden Victoria stallion Russian Camelot (Ire).

Earlier, the Todd Howlett-trained Mic Drop had won her heat in 46.86s, which turned out to be the quickest of the four 2-year-old 805-metre heats.

This was Mic Drop’s third time to the trials, having won over 845 metres at Wyong last month.

She is from the High Chaparral (Ire) mare El Astoora (NZ), who descends from one of New Zealand’s most famous families. The filly counts the dual Group 1 winner Tristalove (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}) as her third dam and was a $300,000 purchase for Howlett from the Lime Country Thoroughbreds draft at last year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

This trial was notable for the appearance of the unbeaten R. Listed Inglis Millennium winner Fully Lit (Hellbent), who was the highest rated runner in Golden Slipper betting among Monday morning’s trial juveniles.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained colt was held together without being asked for an effort and finished right alongside the winner in third place.

Anode impresses

While Fully Lit might have filled only a minor placing in his heat, stakes-placed stablemate Anode (I Am Invincible) looked the part winning his heat under Adam Hyeronimus.

Anode, who was passed in at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale when falling short of his $375,000 reserve, won on debut at Randwick in December. He returned to the races earlier this month, where he was third to Castanya (Capitalist) in the Listed Lonhro Plate. He is currently rated a $51 chance in Golden Slipper betting.

Anode's third dam is Picadilly Circus (Royal Academy {USA}), placed in a Blue Diamond herself and at stud the dam of Champion Sire Fastnet Rock.

Growing into himself

The other 2-year-old heat of the session was taken out by the Ciaron Maher-trained Growing Empire (Zoustar) in the Yulong colours.

Growing Empire just missed on debut at the Randwick-Kensington track earlier this month but looked the part in leading home the unraced pair Perspiration and Interjection, both sons of Too Darn Hot (GB).

Growing Empire is from the Snitzel mare Miles Of Krishan and was a $700,000 purchase for Yulong from the Vinery Stud draft at last year's Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Something to Think About

The Everest winner Think About It (So You Think {NZ}) coasted into a rapidly closing third placing in his 805-metre heat during the session.

The Joe Pride trained 5-year-old was allowed to find the line under his own steam as Butch Cassidy (Written Tycoon) was pushed out to win the heat narrowly from Winning Verse (Winning Rupert). It was Butch Cassidy’s first public appearance since running eighth in last year’s G1 Coolmore Stud S.

Think About It is set to resume at Randwick on March 9 in the G1 Canterbury S., where there is a potential clash with glamour mare Imperatriz (I Am Invincible).

Another Group 1 winner seen stretching the legs on Monday was the Doomben 10,000 winner Mazu (Maurice {Jpn}), who finished second in his heat to Porta Romana (I Am Invincible), making up good ground on the winner over the last 200 metres.

Novel return

One of the more interesting horses to trial on Tuesday was The Novelist (Written By), who hasn’t raced since winning the G3 Bruce McLachlan S. at Doomben in December 2022.

The Novelist did trial in September last year but didn’t race during the spring.

He is unbeaten in two starts, having won on debut at Kembla Grange before going to Queensland.

The now 3-year-old was a $110,000 purchase from the Glenlogan Park Stud draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for Tricolours Racing and Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
