An exceptional opportunity has arisen at Widden Stud Australia in the Upper Hunter, NSW. An opening exists for a talented individual to step into a leadership role as the Assistant Stud Manager.

The candidate will have the opportunity to learn from two highly experienced Stud Managers and receive comprehensive mentorship.

Responsibilities:

As the incoming assistant manager, you will work closely with our current leadership group during the transitional period, gaining invaluable insights into the role and what would be required of you.

You would be responsible for overseeing daily operations and leading a dynamic team, while reporting to the Stud Manager, and your key duties would include, but not be limited to:

• Foal conformation checks for surgical procedures.

• Working closely with our resident veterinarian and administration team to maintain records of all veterinary procedures including chest scans, deworming and foal vaccination programmes.

• Ability to handle large groups during vet work.

• Understanding of the reproductive system and relevant vet work, timing for covers, etc.

• Effectively administer treatments.

• Feed runs and checking paddocks.

• Handling foals/weanlings, as part of vet work/farrier i.e. in the crush.

• Overseeing quarantine procedures.

• Sales preparation of weanlings and mares.

• Foaling mares and postpartum care of the neonate.

You will also need to demonstrate the following:

• Leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.

• Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.

• Effective time keeping and organisational skills, specifically with staff management and daily farm duties.

• Organisational skills e.g. vet work, farrier lists and staff, etc.

• Ability to work as part of a team and alone.

• Punctuality, specifically with paperwork e.g. treatment sheets.

• Ability to liaise with clients on professional level via email and telephone.
