Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Three exciting runners are set to hit the track across Australia on Thursday, including a Fine Needle (Jpn) colt having his second start at Bendigo, and well-bred Zoustar and Harry Angel (Ire) 3-year-olds having their first starts.
Bendigo, Race 1, 2pm AEDT, Bendigo Mazda Mdn Plate, $27,000, 1600m
Fine Future (Jpn), 3-year-old gelding (Fine Needle {Jpn} x Mirai E {Jpn} {Deep Impact {USA}})
The well-bred Fine Future (Jpn) is set to have his second start over 1600 metres for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young at Bendigo on the back of a very promising debut performance at Terang over 1200 metres.

Fine Future is a son of Darley Japan’s sire Fine Needle (Jpn) and is out of Mirai E (Jpn). She was unplaced on the track but is very well-related. She is a sister to the Woodside Park Stallion and dual Group 1 winner Tosen Stardom (Jpn) and the Group winner Centelleo (Jpn), a three-quarter-sister to Tosen Homareboshi (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) and a half-sister to stakes-placed Neo Stardom (Jpn) (Neo Universe {Jpn})
Fine Future was a $300,000 purchase by Busuttin Racing from the draft of Emirates Park at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Bendigo, Race 3, 3pm AEDT, Bendigo Property Maintenance Mdn Plate, $27,000, 1000m
Have A Crack, 3-year-old gelding (Zoustar x Cross Legend {Sebring})
Have A Crack, a son of Widden Stud’s proven stallion Zoustar, will make his debut at Bendigo for Flemington trainer Simon Zahra after placing second in a trial at Caulfield on February 29.
The promising gelding is the first foal from the Sebring mare Cross Legend who was a winner on the track over 1100 metres at Morphettville. She is very well-related being a half-sister to the G2 Australia S. hero in Thronum, the talented Listed Lonhro Plate winner in Cythera (I Am Invincible) and the stakes-placed Rule Of Law (Snitzel).

Further back in the family are Darley’s super shuttlers Street Cry (Ire), Victor Ludorum (GB), Shamardal (USA) and Terrirories (Ire).
Cross Legend has since produced a 2-year-old filly by Pride Of Dubai named Shadhavar and yearling and weanling colts by Russian Revolution.
Have A Crack sold for $230,000 at the 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale with Simon Zahra Racing being the successful purchaser from the draft of Sledmere Stud.
Looking Back
Not much luck for our Wednesday selections. At Matamata Little Thief (NZ) (Dundeel {NZ}) failed to finish in the placings, while at Randwick-Kensington, Hezdarnhottoo (NZ) (Too Darn Hot {GB}) was third in Race 1 and Cassiel (Harry Angel {Ire}) was scratched from Race 4.
