Inglis Digital: Irish-based Marlhill House purchase top-lot Piccadillies

On Wednesday, the 2024 Inglis Digital March (Late) Online Sale concluded. There were 402 lots catalogued of which 289 sold (72.61 per cent) while 109 passed-in (27.39 per cent). The sale grossed $3,969,150 with an average of $13,734 and a median of $3750.

Lot 396 Piccadillies (Uncle Mo {USA}) achieved a top-price of $300,000 when selling to Eddie and Eimear Irwin, the Tipperary-based Marlhill House.

Laugh A Little (Lonhro) offered by Holbrook Thoroughbreds as Lot 370 on a cover to the star sire Justify (USA) failed to meet her reserve of $300,000. Meanwhile, Lot 252 Rose Of Mulan (More Than Ready {USA}) also fell short of her reserve of $270,000 when offered by Yarraman Park Stud on a cover to Hellbent.

Irish-based operation secure top-lot

The Tipperary-based Marlhil Stud, owned by Eddie and Eimear Irwin, walked away with the top-lot, Piccadillies, offered by Coolmore Stud. Piccadillies, a daughter of Uncle Mo (USA), who stands at Coolmore Stud’s Ashford base, was sold on a cover to another Coolmore-owned sire in the exciting freshman St Mark’s Basilica (Fr).

Piccadillies won over 1200 metres and is a half-sister to the outstanding sire and racehorse Fastnet Rock.

Tom Magnier paid $225,000 to secure I Say Hello (NZ). The daughter of Iffraaj (GB) was offered by Coolmore Stud on a September cover to the freshman sire Home Affairs.

I Say Hello won three races and was placed in the G3 James HB Carr S. Her first foal, a colt by Pierro, is a yearling and was sold for NZ$240,000 at the 2024 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale at Karaka.

Coolmore Stud were responsible for the three highest broodmares, with Lot 384 Montoya’s Secret (High Chaparral {NZ}) selling for $195,000 to Castle Bloodstock. A victress of the G1 Vinery Stud S. Montoya’s Secret is carrying a cover to Starspangledbanner.

Armed Forces heading to Hong Kong

Armed Forces, a lightly raced 3-year-old gelding, by I Am Invincible, will continue his racing career in Hong Kong after Marie Yoshida of Asian Bloodstock Service paid $275,000.

The Group 2-placed gelding, trained by Chris Waller was offered as part of the Coolmore reduction. According to Yoshida the purchase was a “a no-brainer”, with Armed Forces already been allocated a Hong Kong PP Rating of 63.

Armed Forces was a $375,000 purchase by Chris Waller Racing and Mulcaster Bloodstock from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
