Derby win boosts A Lot with second stakes winner
Second favourite A Lot Of Good Men (A Lot {USA}) bolted home to take the G2 Western Australian Derby by 2.18l over favourite Buckets Ridge (Pride Of Dubai). Trained by Trevor Andrews for a large syndicate, A Lot Of Good Men hadn’t won this season, despite placing many times in strong company, but did have three wins as a 2-year-old last season.

Saturday’s win took his record to four wins and seven placings from 17 starts with earnings over $750,000. He was purchased by his trainer for $42,500 from Mungrup Stud at the 2022 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale. From the first crop of Listed winner A Lot, who is a son of Tapit (USA), A Lot Of Good Men becomes A Lot’s second stakes winner after 2-year-old gelding Sir Dreamalot who won the Listed Supremacy S. last month.
New stakes winner for Time Test in South Pacific Classic
Little Avondale Stud’s Time Test (GB) gained a new stakes winner when 3-year-old gelding Panic (NZ) won the Listed South Pacific Classic at Randwick on Saturday. “The Hawkesbury Guineas in three weeks’ time is an option or maybe something in Queensland. We will just get through today and have a bit of a think,” Trainer Michael Freedman said.
Trained by Michael Freedman, Panic now has four wins from six starts and earnings over $179,000. He was purchased by Mick Wallace and Paul Moroney Bloodstock at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale for NZ$80,000 from the draft of Blandford Lodge. Time Test now has seven stakes winners.
Air Assault adds Port Adelaide Guineas
Air Assault (Justify {USA}) took another step towards the G1 South Australia Derby with a win in Saturday’s Listed Port Adelaide Guineas at Morphettville. He has now won his last three in succession for trainer Andrew Gluyas.
Bred by Harry Perks’ Toorak Thoroughbred Breeding Trust and passed in by Stonehouse Thoroughbreds at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, the 3-year-old gelding now has five wins from 14 starts and earnings over $380,000.
Chicago Storm becomes first stakes winner for Trust
In winning Saturday’s Listed City Of Adelaide H, 5-year-old gelding Chicago Storm (Trust In A Gust) gave his late sire his first stakes winner. Trained by David Albridge and ridden by Carleen Hefel, Chicago Storm has now won eight of his 22 starts with earnings over $350,000.
Dual Group 1 winner Trust In A Gust died in May 2023 at Glen Eden Stud. Chicago Storm is his first stakes winner, and he has 51 winners from 95 runners.
Wings of Song wins Auraria Stakes
3-year-old filly Wings of Song (Mendelssohn {USA}) became the first Southern Hemisphere Group winner for her sire when she won the G3 Auraria S. at Morphettville on Saturday. She is from his first crop and had previously won three Listed races in Tasmania.
Trained by Patrick Payne, Wings Of Song runs in the all red jacket of her breeders, Twin Hills Stud’s Olly Tait and Jill Nivison. This was her seventh win from 12 starts and took her earnings above $413,000. She is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Cherry Tortoni (Night Of Thunder {Ire}) and her dam is a winning half-sister to Group 1 winner Tie The Knot (Nassipour {USA}), and Listed winners Dream Ballad (Singspiel {Ire}) and Hood (Shamardal {USA}).
Sir Sway salutes for Sir Prancealot
Three-year-old gelding Sir Sway (Sir Prancealot {Ire}) won the Listed Redelva S. at Morphettville on Saturday to become his sire’s 16th stakes winner worldwide.
Trained by Sue and Jason Jaensch at Murray Bridge, Sir Sway has now won four of his six starts with earnings over $157,000. The second foal of winning mare Silent Sway (Commands), Sir Sway was not offered at auction. Sir Prancealot (Ire) now stands at Rancho San Miguel in California.
Injured Laing wins Golden Mile
Trainer Robbie Laing’s 4-year-old gelding El Soleado (Toronado {Ire}) won the Listed Golden Mile at Bendigo on Saturday. “He (Robbie Laing) messaged me last night and said he was in hospital, and I thought he was joking,” stable representative Damien Williams told Racing.com.

“He was just fixing a belly strap on the horse, and it just cleaned him up and knocked him into the wall. He has sustained a leg injury and from a horse that is very quiet.”
Winning the Golden Mile gave El Soleado his fourth win this autumn and took his record to six wins from 17 starts with earnings over $450,000. Withdrawn from auction as a yearling, El Soleado becomes the 37th stakes winner for Toronado.
Million dollar Provincial-Midway Championship goes to Territory Express
Trainer Paul Niceforo’s 4-year-old gelding Territory Express (Territories {Ire}) gave the stable a big payday in winning the $1 million Provincial-Midway Championship at Randwick on Saturday. “I’ve known this horse since he was a 2-year-old and to get the job done for them, I really think highly of this horse and I am thankful to get the ride on a big day,” jockey Zac Lloyd told Racingnsw.com.au.
Territory Express qualified for the race two starts ago when winning a qualifier race at Illawarra Turf Club, and ran second in the G2 Ajax S last start. All up, he has four wins from 14 starts and today’s result of $654,000 took his earnings over $872,000.
Epaulette adds new stakes winner in New Zealand
Co-trainer Michael Pitman won his 2000th race in New Zealand when Aussie born 3-year-old filly Epee Beel (Epaulette) won the Listed NZB Insurance S at Riccarton. “She’s a very nice filly who we bought her off gavelhouse.com for NZ$5000,” Pitman told Loveracing.nz.
“We will line her up next week in the (Listed) Warstep Stakes and I think she will be even stronger.” Epee Beel has two wins from 13 starts with earnings over NZ$88,000.
“I’ve won three New Zealand premierships and now this so maybe they might even consider me for the Hall Of Fame now.
“Funnily enough back in 1979 I was in hospital with four other blokes after I had lost my leg and was getting an artificial replacement. In the same ward was Robert Dunn who had had a bad smash on the harness track. He trained his 2000th winner a week ago and we’ve had plenty of talks about it and how good it would be if we could do it at the same time, so to do that today with all my family including the grandkids here makes this very very special.”
New stakes winner for Atlante
Testify Me (NZ) (Atlante) took his winning New Zealand St Leger form into Saturday and won the Listed Hawke’s Bay Cup at the Otaki-Maori Racing Club meeting to become the sixth stakes winner for his sire who is a son of Fastnet Rock.
Testify Me has now won five of his 17 starts with earnings over NZ$199,000.
Imwonderfultonight earns trip to Brisbane
Trainer Sam Mynott is contemplating a trip to Brisbane for 5-year-old mare Imwonderfultonight (I Am Invincible) after she won the Listed City Of Napier Sprint in New Zealand on Saturday. “Going to Queensland is an option but we haven’t set any plans as yet,” she told Loveracing.nz.
Owned by Windsor Park Stud and Ben Kwok, it was the first stakes win for Imwonderfultonight who took her record to three wins from 12 starts with five placings (three of those in stakes company) and earnings over NZ$140,000. She became the 107th stakes winner for her Champion sire.
Show The Way gives Ducimus second juvenile winner for season
West Australian sire Ducimus gained his second juvenile winner from his second crop on Saturday when 2-year-old gelding Show The Way won the opening race at Ascot. Trained by Neville Parnham, Show The Way was having his fourth start and took his earnings over $66,000.

A $31,000 purchase by Fantail Holdings from Alwyn Park Stud at the Magic Millions Perth Winter Yearling Sale, Show The Way is 11th winner for Listed winner Ducimus, whose oldest foals are 3-year-olds and include stakes placed winner Leading Taddy.
Townsville QTIS race won by consistent Prophet
2-year-old filly Time To Prophet (Divine Prophet) took her record to three wins from six starts in Saturday’s QTIS 2-year-old race at Townsville. Trained by Georgina Bourke, Time To Prophet won on debut back in October.
Purchased by Holt Racing for $17,500 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from Lyndhurst Stud Farm, Time To Prophet now has earnings over $99,000.
Inaugural Southern Alps hits goals
The inaugural NZ$350,000 TAB Southern Alps Challenge over a mile was designed to give South Island trainers a chance at a decent pay day, and it met that goal when trainer Sharon Robertson, who has just six horses in work, won with Matscot (NZ) (Haradasun). “It’s fantastic for the connections,” jockey Joe Doyle told Loveracing.nz.
“This is the type of horse that a small stable dreams about having. They can turn up on a Saturday and have a go for some great money. To get this win today is a fantastic achievement.”
Robertson co-bred and part-owns the 6-year-old with her partner Alan Reeves and fellow owner Ross Falloon. One of eight stakes winners for his sire, Matscot had previously won the Listed Spring Classic this season, and today’s win took his record to seven wins from 26 starts and earnings over NZ$330,000.
Filly to take on colts in Japanese Guineas
Group 1 winning 3-year-old filly Regaleira (Jpn) (Suave Richard {Jpn}) will take on the colts in Sunday’s G1 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas). Trainer Tetsuya Kimura said, “She's come along as expected, without any problems. She's better in her left foreleg now. Once again, she has a new challenge ahead of her here.”
Among her rivals are blue-blooded Group 3 winner and €2.1-million Arqana August sale-topper Shin Emperor (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) and Japanese Champion 2-Year-Old Colt Jantar Mantar (Jpn) (Palace Malice {USA}).
Master Of The Seas wins another Group 1
Godolphin's Master Of The Seas (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) overcame easy underfoot conditions and five other rivals to add Friday's G1 Maker's Mark Mile to his previous victories in the G1 Ricoh Woodbine Mile and G1 Breeders' Cup Mile.
Stable mate Naval Power (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) was second.
