Morphettville: G1 South Australian Derby, $1,000,000, 2500m

The good run being enjoyed by Arrowfield Stud's The Autumn Sun continued with one of his G1 Australasian Oaks winning placegetters backing up and proving too strong for the boys - Coco Sun relishing the step up to 2500 metres. A Listed winner over 1400 metres at the same track last winter, Coco Sun is one of her sire's four stakes winners amongst his first 39 winners. And she is his third recent Group 1 winning filly - Autumn Angel and Vibrant Sun the others.

Bred by Wallings Bloodstock, she was sold by Tyreel Stud to McEvoy Mitchell Racing and Belmont Bloodstock for $250,000 at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. Her city winning dam Miss Hufflepuff (Encosta de Lago) has also produced this season's stakes placed 2-year-old Nymphadora (Yes Yes Yes) as well as the city winner Queen Of Wizardry (Not A Single Doubt).

Again served by The Autumn Sun last spring having missed the previous season, Miss Hufflepuff had her So You Think (NZ) yearling sell for $240,000 to First Light Racing, Tony and Calvin McEvoy and Belmont Bloodstock at this year's Inglis Classic Sale.

Miss Hufflepuff is one of the five winners (from as many to race) for the imported Listed winner Miss Helga (Ire) (Alzao {USA}) whose son Liberator (Encosta de Lago) earned the title of Hong Kong Champion Stayer.

It was another dominant performance by Bustling (Frosted {USA}) who proved a class above his rivals recording his fourth win from five starts.
