Exceptional broodmare Parmalove (Snitzel), claimed the spotlight at Wednesday evening's Inglis Digital Sale, fetching an impressive $730,000 and finding a new home at Walnut Farm. Offered by Gus and Bianca Wigley's Inglewood Stud, the sale marked a bittersweet moment for Gus Wigley, who acknowledged it as a logical decision.

Group 1 producer tops sale

Parmalove (Snitzel) offered as Lot 491 by Gus and Bianca Wigley’s Inglewood Stud was knocked down for $730,000 to Walnut Farm. Parmalove was a late withdrawal from last Thursday’s Inglis Chairman’s Sale after sustaining a few superficial scrapes and a minor cut after a float incident.

The daughter of Snitzel is a proven producer, her daughter Velocious (Written Tycoon) is likely to be crowned New Zealand’s Champion 2-Year-Old with victories in the G1 Sistema S., the R. Listed Karaka Millions and the Listed Counties Challenge S.

Reportedly, the daughter of Written Tycoon is set to travel to Australia in the spring to tackle the G1 Coolmore Stud S. Her dam's first three progeny have all saluted as juveniles, and she was presented in foal to Rich Hill Stud’s outstanding young sire Satono Aladdin (Jpn).

Gus Wigley told The Thoroughbred Report, “It’s a little bittersweet selling Parmalove, she’s been a fantastic mare and is pretty special to us, but we have two of her daughters and we really saw it is a great opportunity to reinvest in three to four young mares and futureproof our broodmare band.

“It’s head winning out over heart a bit,” Wigley declared.

“We did something similar when we sold down our shareholding in Zacinto and one of the broodmares we bought was Parmalove, so we’ll have another go and try for a repeat.”

Following Parmalove was Lot 360, Global Dream (Fastnet Rock) was sold for $140,000 to A King from the Highgrove Stud. Global Dream is the dam of the G3 Breeders’ Plate winner Global Quest (More Than Ready {USA}) and was second in the G2 Silver Slipper S. and the G3 Canonbury S. The daughter of Fastnet Rock was offered with a cover to Newgate Farm’s G1 Golden Slipper victor Stay Inside.

Suman Hedge of Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA) went to $120,000 to secure How’s The Serenity (Magnus). The nine-time winner has won two Listed races and is from the family of last Saturday’s G1 Goodwood H. victress Benedetta (Hellbent).

Also active was the Officiating Syndicate, purchasing mares for Aquis’ new stallion Officiating (USA). The son of Blame (USA) will stand for $12,500 (inc GST) and Aquis Director of Sales Jonathan Davies on behalf of the Officiating Syndicate confirmed Lot 165, Klum (Snitzel) was purchased specifically for the new acquisition.

“Klum was bought specifically for Officiating. The Snitzel and Blame cross has already given us Switzerland and we’re looking forward to Officiating replicating that cross,” Davies told TTR AusNZ.

Klum won as a juvenile and is a granddaughter of the brilliant filly Military Rose (General Nediym), whose daughter In Times Of War (Street Cry {Ire}) is the dam of this seasons sensational juvenile Espionage (Zoustar), a victor of the G2 Kindergarten S. and the G3 Breeders’ Plate.

Competition strong for racing prospects

Competition for racing prospects was strong with Lot 2, Diabelli (Fastnet Rock) offered by Godolphin topping the division at $90,000 to the bid of Pinhook Bloodstock. While three lots shared equalling billing at $70,000.

Among them was Dubai Poet (GB) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) presented by Godolphin on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed Obaid al Maktoum. The son of Lope De Vega (Ire) has been Group 2-placed in Europe and was secured by Micheal Hickmott Bloodstock for $70,000.

Make A Call was offered as a maiden, albeit was fourth in the G3 Breeders’ Plate on debut, third in the G3 Black Opal S. and second in the Listed Fernhill H. among his efforts.
