Lot : 939 Safe Passage (Snitzel x Travessia (Deep Impact) - $36,000
Buyer: Twin Hills Stud
Vendor: Widden Stud
Olly Tait of Twin Hills Stud made a savvy purchase on the final day of the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale, acquiring the well-related Snitzel mare, Safe Passage who carries a cover to proven sire Kermadec (NZ). A winner as a 2-year-old, the daughter of Deep Impact (Jpn) demonstrated her quality by winning at the metropolitan level and finishing just two lengths behind the Yes Baby Yes (Dissident) in the G2 Armanasco S. as a 3-year-old. This $380,000 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale graduate is, unsurprisingly, a great type herself.

By Snitzel, the broodmare sire of three individual Group 1 winners, including this season’s elite winners Celestial Legend (Dundeel {NZ}) and Velocious (Written Tycoon), Safe Passage was highly appealing to Tait. "She's by Snitzel, one of the greatest stallions in Australia's history. She won on debut in New Zealand before being brought over to Australia and winning in Melbourne," he said.
“She has a great pedigree, being closely related to King Kamehameha (Jpn) (Kingmambo {USA}), a renowned stallion in Japan.”
She is a granddaughter of Manfath (Ire), the dam of King Kamehameha, a high-class racehorse and Champion Japanese stallion who sired over 100 individual stakes winners at his Shadai Stallion Station base.

The 7-year-old mare has a Hellbent weanling on the ground and is currently in-foal to Darley’s Kermadec (NZ), the sire of four individual Group 1 winners, including Montefilia, Amokura, and Tuvalu. Just last weekend, his latest promising 3-year-old filly, Scarlet Oak, raced to outright G1 Queensland Oaks favouritism when she claimed the G2 The Roses for Ozzie Kheir, John O’Neill, and partners. "She's in foal to Kermadec, who we all know can get high-quality horses, so we’re really pleased to get her," Tait added.
Regarding this year’s mating plans, Tait confirmed she will likely go to Twin Hills' newest addition, Daumier. "She’ll go to Daumier; she’s a nice mare for him as he enters his second season at stud."
