Belmont: Listed Beaufine S., $125,000, 1000m

In a race so sadly marred by the fall of Nerodio (Playing God) as he loomed up to win this race for a third time, victory went to Pauli (Dick Turpin {Ire}). At the age of seven recording his first win at Listed level - and his ninth overall from 37 starts - the home-bred for C Dow is the third stakes winner for his multiple Group 1 winning sire who shuttled to Mungrup Stud on five occasions.

He is one of the two winners for the unraced Blazing Red Jules (Passenger), half-sister to the city winner Shecky Evil (Palace Reign). Served last spring by A Lot with her previous foal a 2022 born filly by that same stallion, Blazing Red Jules hails from the same family as the G1 Australian Cup winner Starstruck (Haulpak) and the G3 Rough Habit Plate winner Shocking Luck (NZ) (Shocking).

Caulfield: G3 Sir John Monash S., $200,000, 1100m

Kicking off his campaign in fine style, Recommendation (Shalaa {Ire}) gave nothing else a chance racing away to a seven length victory. One of the 16 stakes winners for his Woodside Park based sire, he was bred by Pacific King and withdrawn from the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

His dam is the unraced Adviso (USA) (Street Cry {Ire}) whose dam is the four times Group 1 winner Proviso (GB) (Dansili {GB}), also dam of the dual Listed winner Sailing Solo (USA) (Smart Strike {Can}) and grandam of the dual Listed winner Al Musmak (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}). Proviso's dam is the wonderful broodmare Binche (USA) (Woodman {USA}), also dam of the G1 Prince Of Wales's S. winner Byword (BG) (Peintre Celebre {USA}), the triple Group winner Finche (GB) (Frankel {GB}) and the Listed winner Baratti (GB) (Frankel). Binche is also grandam of Woodside Park's G3 Prix Daphnis winner Delaware (GB) and the Listed Prix de Bagatelle winner Environs (GB) (Dansili).

Adviso visited Snitzel last spring, foaling a filly by The Autumn Sun in late September having the previous year producing a full sister to Recommendation. Her 2-year-old Runjeet - also by Shalaa - is a yet to race member (though he has trialled on three occasions) of the John Sargent stable.

Recommendation, his sire Shalaa and his dam sire Street Cry (Ire), are all descendants of the influential Prunella (GB) (Highflyer {GB}).
