TAB hit by global IT problem

Tabcorp and Sportsbet have been caught up in the global Microsoft outage gripping a range of major businesses. Around 3pm AEDT on Friday, betting with TAB came to a complete standstill from both an online and retail perspective.

“Like many organisations, global issues affecting Windows and Crowdstrike are disrupting some of our services. This means many of our betting services are unavailable. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible,” Sportsbet wrote a statement reported on racenet.com.au.

“The Keeneland Championship Sale is an opportunity to play at the highest levels of the sport,” Keeneland President and CEO Shannon Arvin said. “Prospective owners have the chance to enjoy the ride of a lifetime, potentially taking a horse from the sales ring to the Breeders' Cup winner's circle and possibly back to the sales ring, all in less than a week. That's a rare thrill only horse racing can provide.”

In Flight looks for fourth on Saturday

Trainer Joe Pride thinks In Flight (Flying Artie) is capable of winning a fourth in succession on Saturday at Rosehill. “The interesting thing this weekend is I usually have a pretty good idea of what’s next for a horse and how well they’re placed,” Pride told racingnsw.com.au.

“For this filly to come out of three 72 races and go into an open handicap is pretty rare. It’s a little bit hard to line her up but the market’s telling me she’s in a winnable race. Last week there was a lot of talk that she wasn’t going to be able to carry the weight, but she did it easily. So, where’s the ceiling on a horse like this, it’s hard to say.”

Four for Rawiller at Mildura

Brad Rawiller rode four winners at Mildura on Friday, including the 100th Mildura Cup aboard Patrick Payne-trained Jimmy The Bear (Jimmy Creed {USA}). “It's special, more because of this horse, Jimmy The Bear, he's literally loved by everyone at the stable,” Rawiller told racing.com.

“In my three-month hiatus, I was riding him a lot of work and a lot of Patrick's horses can pull and give you a hard time out at the farm. This bloke was the one you looked forward to every morning.”

His other winners were Redevance (More Than Ready {USA}), Joon Ho (Jimmy Creed {USA}), and Princeofnottingham (Pierro).

Snitzel colt looks for third in a row

Jason Warren's 3-year-old gelding Freak Of Nature (Snitzel) will shoot for his third-straight win when he contests the VRC Member Leigh Hughes H. on Saturday at Flemington, with the outcome of the race to determine what lies ahead for him. “At this point, he looks like the progressive horse that we always thought he was,” Warren told racing.com.

“If he can go and win again on Saturday, well, he's on his way to being a Listed-level horse at least.” Freak Of Nature has won three of his eight starts.

Carr to set Ms Tasmania for spring

Dual licence holder Siggy Carr enters the final two meetings of the racing season in Tasmania with a deal of satisfaction, having had her best year as a trainer-jockey. “It’s been a fantastic season, a credit to all my staff and owners that have supported us; we’ve come across a couple of really handy horses throughout the season in the stable, so we’ve been really lucky,” Carr told tasracing.com.au.

The star has been 2-year-old filly Ms Tasmania (Magnus) who raced only three times for two wins and a third and almost $100,000 in prize money. “Ms Tasmania is returning this week, and we will set her for all the 3-year-old races whether or not she gets any further than 1200 metres, we will find out through the upcoming preparation, and that will steer her in what direction we will send her.”

Duric to ride in final Singapore Derby

Singapore riding legend Vlad Duric will return to Kranji to ride one of the favourites Bestseller (Dream Ahead {USA}) in the Singapore Derby on Sunday. “It could quite easily be the last trip up there,” Duric told racenet.com.au.

“So many jockeys came and went while I was there, the memories are so good to ride against so many styles of riders. To have won most of their feature races, four premierships, it is a special place to us.”

Diego Valazquez to the Cox Plate?

Such an eye-catcher when fourth in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains at ParisLongchamp in May, Ballydoyle's Diego Velazquez (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) who failed to stay the mile and a half of Royal Ascot's G2 King Edward VII S. roared back to form dropping to nine furlongs in Thursday's G3 Meld S. at Leopardstown.

“He's made like a miler and loved the ground–he could be a Cox Plate horse, as he's definitely not short of pace. Ryan said he's got all the class and all the speed in the world. At least we know now what to do with him,” said trainer Aidan O’Brien.

Diego Velazquez, who cost 2.4million gns at the Tattersalls Book 1 Sale, is the last known foal out of the Listed National Stakes winner Sweepstake (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) whose sons Australia (GB), Broome (Ire) and Point Lonsdale (Ire) are all group winners.
