Steparty gelded ahead of spring

Rising 4-year-old Steparty has been gelded ahead of this spring. “We were always dreaming he might make it as a stallion and you leave it as long as you can, but with his breeding, he probably was going to need a couple of Group 1s and he hadn't,” managing owner and breeder Greg Baldwin told racing.com.

“It wasn't really a hard decision to make, it was a bit of a gimme and had to happen. He has come through it well and looks a million bucks.” Steparty won his first five races in succession including the G3 Caulfield Guineas Trial, and was third in the G1 Caulfield Guineas but struggled to find form this autumn.

Singapore Derby won by Lim’s Saltoro

Australian trainer Dan Meagher has won the final Listed Singapore Derby on Sunday, as Lim's Saltoro (NZ) (Shamexpress {NZ}) became only the second horse in history to claim the country's four-year-old Triple Crown. “I don't think this win has sunk in yet,” Meagher told racing.com.

“It was always going to be special to win the last Derby and be part of Singapore history, but it's probably something I will reflect on when it (racing) ends. But to win it for (owner) Mr Lim (Siah Mong) is an honour. He's won it three times before I think but I could tell it meant a lot to him today. That meant a lot to me.” Lim’s Saltoro has won nine of his ten starts.

Racing in Singapore is set to conclude on October 5 with the final running of the Grand Singapore Gold Cup.

Group 3 juvenile winner for Kodiac

Juddmonte's 2-year-old filly Babouche (GB) (Kodiac {GB}) justified 13-8 favouritism in Sunday's G3 Jebel Ali Racecourse AND Stables Anglesey S. at the Curragh and now has a record of two wins from as many starts.

“She's a filly we've always liked and has a temperament to die for,” said trainer Ger Lyons. “We'll see how she comes out of this race, but at the minute we're going to take on the boys in the G1 Phoenix Stakes. You need the temperament for the Group 1s and she seems to have that. We'll stick to six (furlongs) and I would have thought she'll get further. She's going to be a 1000 Guineas filly and I'll be training her for the Guineas.”

Resolute Racing’s first winner from yearling buys

Virgin Colada (More Than Ready {USA}), trained by Chad Brown, earned a place on the Resolute Racing honour roll as the stables' first winner from a yearling auction buy when winning the seventh race on Sunday at Saratoga Race Course. She was acquired for US$110,000 (AU$165,000) at the Fasig-Tipton October Sale and this was her debut race day outing.

“She's our first 2-year-old that we purchased and put into the system,” Resolute Racing’s John Stewart said. “It's really exciting for us. It's only our second that has made it to the track, so we're excited to get this win. She looked really, really good. We have a lot of confidence in Chad, so we expect great things from her.

“I had one horse in September and I have 130 horses now,” he said. “I've got 43 in training; 28 2-year-olds. About 80% of my program is turf because I really want international competition. You're going to see me take some of these best horses. My first thought when Pounce won yesterday was 'Australia.' I want to take some really good ones. I want to compete on an international scale. I want dirt for the Classic races, because those are important to us, but you're going to see us be really concentrated on the turf.”
