Looking Ahead - July 30

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner early in its career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two exciting runners are set to hit the track across Australia on Tuesday, including a Pierata filly chasing maiden success at Bathurst and a Starspangledbanner filly that brings solid form to a maiden event on the Ballarat Synthetic.

Bathurst, Race 4, 2.25pm AEST, Panorama Hotel Mdn H., $27,000, 1200m

November Air, 2-year-old filly (Pierata x Chickaletta {Redoute’s Choice})

November Air, a daughter of Yulong Stud’s promising young stallion Pierata, will have her second start at Bathurst for Warwick Farm trainer Annabel Neasham after running fourth on debut at Newcastle on July 13 when she only faded late in the piece after being in a prominent position behind Codetta (Nicconi).

The well-related filly is the third foal from the Redoute’s Choice mare Chickaletta, who was unraced on the track.

She is bred on the same Pierata/Redoute’s Choice cross as the smart juvenile Coleman (Pierata) who this season won the G3 Chairman’s S., and the Listed Debutant S., as well as placing in the G1 Golden Slipper, G3 Pago Pago S., and the G1 Sire’s Produce S.

The extended Lonhro/Redoute’s Choice cross has also had great proven success with a 78 per cent winners to runners ratio and a solid 10 per cent stakes winners to runners ratio. Some of the stakes-winning gallopers on the track with this cross includes the Group 1 winner Kementari, Messene, Wawail, Souchez, Generalife and Mirra Vision.

Chickaletta is well-related being a half-sister to Oak Door (Commands) who was successful six times including in the G2 Autumn S., and the G3 Sir John Monash S. Her dam is the five-time winning mare, Beyonce’s Star (Orientate {USA}) who was successful in the Listed Just Now H., and later produced five individual winners from five to race.

Chickaletta since producing November Air, has left a yearling colt by Star Turn, a weanling colt by Pierata and was most recently served last spring by Pride Of Dubai.

Sportsbet-Ballarat Synthetic, Race 2, 1.30pm AEST, Brandt Mdn Plate, $27,000, 1000m

The Doll, 3-year-old filly (Starspangledbanner x Palomita {Ger} {High Chaparral {Ire}})

The well-bred The Doll (Starspangledbanner) is set to have her third start over 1000 metres for Pakenham based trainer Michael Huglin on the Ballarat Synthetic track on the back of two promising runs over the same distance at Yarra Valley and Pakenham last preparation. Leading up to this race she has trialled twice on the Pakenham Synthetic to prepare herself for this assignment..

The Doll is a daughter of the globetrotting sire Starspangledbanner and is out of Palomita (Ger) (High Chaparral {Ire}). She was a four-time winner in Germany on the track and her wins included Listed success in the Grosser Preis von Rossmann. Palomita is also a half-sister to the talented globe-trotting Pakal (Ger) (Lord of England {Ger}) who was successful five times in Switzerland, Germany and Australia and at Listed and Group 3 level.

The Doll was a $25,000 purchase by Diamond Park Breeding and Racing from the 2021 Inglis Digital August Sale 2.

Adjanni (American Pharoah {USA}) was unfortunately scratched, she will keep for another day.
