Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner early in its career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Two exciting 3-year-old runners are set to hit the track across Australia on Thursday, including a Russian Revolution mare that looks ready for maiden success at Newcastle and a Written Tycoon mare that is resuming at Terang.

Madam Instrife, 4-year-old mare (Russian Revolution x Abscond {Galileo {Ire}})
The Michael, John and Wayne Hawkes-trained Madam Instrife will travel to Newcastle on Thursday to have her second start over 1200 metres. On debut she was only narrowly beaten, running a close-up third to Summer Loving (Exceed And Excel) when she made very good ground from back in the field over 1250 metres at Canterbury on June 19.
The promising mare is by the Newgate Farm resident Russian Revolution and is the seventh foal from the Galileo (Ire) mare Abscond, who was a three-time winner on the track.
She then has become a star broodmare having left three individual stakes-winners. The best of these has been Invincibella (I Am Invincible), she was successful in the G1 Tattersall's Tiara, a dual winner of the G2 Dane Ripper S., and then both the G2 Blazer S., and the G2 Sheraco S.

Her other two stakes winners are Extreme Flight (Extreme Choice) who was successful in the Listed Gothic S., and Secret Blaze (Sizzling) who was a handy stayer winning the G3 JRA Cup and the Listed Galilee Series Final H.
Madam Instrife has some lovely pedigree influences throughout including Sadler’s Wells (USA), Snitzel, Stravinsky (USA), Miswaki (USA), Zabeel (NZ), Snippets, Northern Dancer (Can) and Noble Bijou (USA).
Since producing Madam Instrife, Abscond has produced a 3-year-old filly by I Am Invincible named Mem’s Choice, a yearling colt by Stay Inside and she was most recently served by I Am Invincible.
Madam Instrife sold for $850,000 at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. with Dermot Farrington Bloodstock Pty Ltd being the successful purchaser from the draft of Sledmere Stud.

Road To Recovery, 4-year-old mare (Written Tycoon x Honeysuckle Street {Kempinsky})
Terang’s Thursday meeting will serve as the venue for the second start for Road To Recovery, a well-bred daughter of Written Tycoon from the Lyndsey Smith stable at Warrnambool. On debut in November last year she ran a solid third at Ararat over 1200 metres.
Road To Recovery is the sixth foal out of the unraced mare, Honeysuckle Street (Kempinsky). Honeysuckle Street herself is a half-sister to Lago Delight, he was a two-time winner including the Listed Mitchell McKenzie S., before becoming a stallion. Another half-sibling is Tycoon Ruler who was a five-time winner including the Listed WJ Adams S., and the Listed Barton S., and he managed placings in the G1 Australian Guineas, G2 Alistair Clark S., G3 CS Hayes S., G3 Debonair S., and the Listed Poseidon S. He also went on to become a stallion.

Road To Recovery’s grandam, Sweet Delight was a six-time winner on the track from 1200 metres to 2050 metres, including the G3 WH Stocks S., and the Listed Cranbourne Cup. She was also Group-placed multiple times and had a long and consistent racing career.
Honeysuckle Street since producing Road To Recovery has produced a 2-year-old colt by So You Think (NZ) and has not produced another foal since then.
Looking Back
Theblade (Toronado {Ire}) was very impressive winning on the Randwick-Kensington course, he looks like he may have a big future. Perfect Justice (Justify {USA}) in the same race didn't seem to appreciate the wet track conditions and battled into a fifth placing.
Autumn Glow (The Autumn Sun) was unfortunately scratched, she will keep.
