Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner early in its career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Three exciting runners are set to hit the track across Australia on Wednesday. Cranbourne is the venue where Too Darn Hot (GB) and I Am Invincible 3-year-olds make their debut and at Eagle Farm a well-bred Cosmic Force filly is chasing her debut win at start number three.
Cranbourne, Race 1, 1pm AEST, Rosemont Stud 3YO Mdn Plate, $37,500, 1000m
Anyone, 3-year-old filly (I Am Invincible x Unforgotten {Fastnet Rock})
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained Anyone (I Am Invincible) will make her debut at Cranbourne on Wednesday over 1000 metres on the back of a third placing at the Cranbourne trials on September 16 behind Ziplining (Starspangledbanner).
The well-related filly is the first foal from the Fastnet Rock mare Unforgotten, who was an outstanding filly that won the G1 Australian Oaks, G2 Phar Lap S. and the G2 Chelmsford S. She also managed placings in the G1 Epsom H. G1 Vinery Stud S. G1 Queen Of The Turf S. and the G1 Chipping Norton S.
Unforgotten’s second dam is the Galileo (Ire) mare Memories Of You (Ire), she was unplaced on the track but has a great pedigree. She is a half-sister to four individual stakes-winners including the Group 1 winner Matiara (USA) (Bering {GB}), Precious Ring (USA) (Bering) as well as Pyrus (USA) and Marathon (USA) who have forged successful stud careers.
At the conclusion of Unforgotten’s racing career she sold at the 2020 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale fetching $2,750,000 to the bid of Yulong. Since producing Anyone, she has produced a 2-year-old filly by Lucky Vega (Ire) named Mystery 'N' Drama, a yearling filly again by Lucky Vega and is due to foal to Pierata any time now.
Anyone was a $650,000 purchase by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) from the draft of Yulong at the 2023 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale

The Muffin Man, 3-year-gelding (Too Darn Hot (GB) x Jennifer Lynn {High Chaparral {Ire}})
The Ben, Will and JD Hayes-trained gelding will debut at Cranbourne on Wednesday over 1400 metres after running second in a trial at Cranbourne on September 16 over 1000 metres behind the 2-time winner Saufiana (Tavistock {NZ}).
The Muffin Man is a son of Darley Stud’s exciting dual-hemisphere sire in Too Darn Hot (GB) and the High Chaparral (Ire) mare Jennifer Lynn who was the winner of the Listed Lexus Hybrid P.
Too Darn Hot is fresh off an International stakes treble over the weekend with his outstanding colt Broadsiding winning the G1 Golden Rose, the promising Perspiration winning the Listed Heritage S. and the 2-year-old Hotazhell (GB) winning the G2 Beresford S. at the Curragh in Ireland.
The talented Espurante (Flying Spur) also features in this page being the geldings grandam, she was a 3-time winner and enjoyed success in the Listed PJ Bell H. She has been a successful broodmare leaving the stakes-winning Jennifer Lynn as well as the winners Jennio (O’Reilly {NZ}), Monteferrante (Pierro) and Librate (So You Think {NZ}),
Since producing The Muffin Man, Jennifer Lynn has produced a 2-year-old filly by Wootton Bassett (GB), a yearling colt by Snitzel and missed to Russian Revolution last spring.
Eagle Farm, Race 1, 2.18pm AEST, Spring Carnival Book Now QTIS 3YO Mdn Plate, $40,000, 1600m
Misting, 3-year-old filly (Cosmic Force x Cuban Gold {Teofilo {Ire}})
The well-related Misting is set to have her third start over 1600 metres for Sunshine Coast trainer David Vandyke at Eagle Farm on Wednesday. Her form doesn't look great at face value but she has run two solid races with a view of her needing more ground. She ran fourth on debut on her home track behind the very promising Climactic (Yes Yes Yes) when she was making solid ground late and then at her second start she ran on very well from well back in the field to finish sixth. The extra distance should be of big assistance today.
Misting is a daughter of Newgate Stud Farm’s promising Cosmic Force and is out of the Teofilo (Ire) mare Cuban Gold who was a winner over the mile distance on the track. She has made a solid start to her career in the breeding shed having left 3-time winner I Miss Margie (Deep Field) and the winner Recompensa (Reward For Effort).
Cuban Gold is a half-sister to the classy sprinter Regimental Gal who was a 7-time winner including the G1 Lightning S. G1 Australia S. G2 San Domenico S. G2 Silver Shadow S. and the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL). She has had success at stud leaving 7-winners with the best of them being Lilliburlero (Redoute’s Choice) who has been successful at Group 3 level in Sydney.
Other successful Group performers within this page are Regimental Band (I Am Invincible), Vimy (Redoute’s Choice), Narooma Guy (Genghiz {USA}) and Souchez (Lonhro)
Cuban Gold, since producing Misting, has left a yearling filly by Rubick and is due to foal to Gold Standard in November.
Misting was originally a $100,000 purchase by Lansdowne Park from the draft of Amarina Farm at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale. She was then a successful pinhook when selling from the Lansdowne Park draft for $160,000 to Vandyke Racing from the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale.
Looking Back
Akuma (Street Boss {USA}) was disappointing at Tatura, he didn't feature at all finishing seventh.
Pietro Road (I Am Invincible) won very well in a small field, he was dominant late and looks capable of featuring in better class.
Force Red (Cosmic Force) was dominant, he led all of the way. His form around him was strong and expect him to feature back in city grade.
