As trainers and connections alike turn their attention to the Gold Coast, star filly Lady Of Camelot (Written Tycoon) made her bid for a spot in the $3 million Magic Millions Sunlight with a returning trial win on Monday morning. Not to be missed was Amelia's Jewel's (Siyouni {Fr}) half-brother back in action en route to the Magic Millions Race Series, a third trial winner for Darley's Bivouac, and a Zousain filly taking it up a notch at Beaudesert.

Lady Of Camelot (Written Tycoon) returned from a short freshen up with a 0.66l trial win on Monday morning around the Hawkesbury track, untroubled by runner-up Bonita Queen (I Am Invincible). Tulloch Lodge’s G1 Golden Slipper S. victress finished the spring without another win, but still ran convincing placings in the G1 Moir S. and G1 Coolmore Stud S.

Connections indicated she is on target for the inaugural running of racing’s newest slot race, the $3 million Magic Millions Sunlight, even though she has yet to be locked in.

Bred and retained by Go Bloodstock, Lady Of Camelot is one of three stakeswinners from three runners for emerging blue hen Miss Debutante (Fastnet Rock). Her 2-year-old half-brother Lancelot Du Lac (Flying Artie) won his Kensington trial last Monday.

Miss Debutante has a yearling full sister to four-time Group 3-winning half-sister Queen Of The Ball (I Am Invincible) before missing to Zoustar, then she was served by Zoustar this spring. Queen Of The Ball was served by Extreme Choice in September and G3 Gimcrack S.-winning half-sister Platinum Jubilee (Zoustar), a $3.5 million purchase for Coolmore at the Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale, visited I Am Invincible in October.

Amelia’s Jewel half-brother en route to Magic Millions

Half-brother to Amelia’s Jewel (Siyouni {Fr}), Bosustow (Blue Point {Ire}) edged out Townsend (Dundeel {NZ}) by 0.01l to win his Hawkesbury trial on Monday morning, as he builds towards heading up to the Gold Coast in January. G3 James HB Carr S. placegetter Hasty Honey (Epaulette) came third by 0.07l.

The 3-year-old colt may only have a maiden win to his name, but he has a slew of stakes-level placings, including third placings in the G1 J J Atkins S. and the G2 Sires’ Produce S. He is nominated for the R. Listed Magic Millions 3YO Guineas on Magic Millions Raceday on January 11.

Bred by Amelia Park, Bosustow was purchased for $900,000 out of Segenhoe Stud’s draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Rosemont Alliance, Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA), and trainer Annabel Neasham Racing. His dam Bumbasina (Ire) (Canford Cliffs {Ire}) is a half-sister to G3 Athasi S. winner Dolce Strega (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}), whose current 2-year-old Lunigiana (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) was runner-up in the Listed Curragh S. in August.

Bumbasina foaled a full sibling to nine-time stakes winner Amelia’s Jewel in September and has been served by Zoustar.

Stylish trial winner for Bivouac

Darley’s triple Group 1 winner Bivouac had a third trial winner on Monday morning, when his Michael Freedman-trained son Swag lifted to a 0.87l victory at Hawkesbury over Olivia Mia (Cool Aza Beel {NZ}). The 2-year-old colt posted the fastest time for the three juvenile trials that morning, and is currently nominated for the R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January.

Bred by Sledmere Stud, Swag was a $240,000 purchase at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for Gandharvi and Michael Freedman Racing, with Sledmere retaining a share in the colt, alongside Widden Stud and Torryburn Stud.

He is a three-quarter-brother to G3 Magic Night S. runner-up Cristobal (Exceed And Excel), dam of G2 Blue Diamond Prelude (Fillies) winner Exploring (Brazen Beau). His dam Status Quo (Lonhro) was placed in the G3 Adrian Knox S. and is a half-sister to Listed Debutant S. winner Gait (Anabaa {USA}) and G2 AAMI Vase winner Marching (Commands).

A full brother to Swag was born last spring, who will be Lot 687 in Sledmere’s draft at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale next year, and Status Quo visited Tassort in September.

Apocalyptic on course for Gold Coast Classic

Giving Michael Freedman a juvenile trial double on Monday, 2-year-old filly Apocalyptic (Extreme Choice) made her bid for a trip to the Gold Coast with a 1.12l win over Philatelic (Street Boss {USA}). Nominated for the R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January, she was third in her debut trial behind Artistic Venture (Trapeze Artist), who debuted fourth in the R. Listed Inglis Nursery this past weekend.

Bred by Etak Thoroughbreds and offered at the Gold Coast this past January by Coolmore Stud, Apocalyptic was a $400,000 purchase for Myracehorse, Michael Freedman Racing, and Julian Blaxland Bloodstock (FBAA).

Her dam Shadow (Medaglia D’Oro) is a full sister to multiple Group-placed Geist, and a granddaughter of G1 Australia S and G1 QTC Sires' Produce S. winner Virage De Fortune (Anabaa {USA}). A full brother to Apocalyptic was born last spring, and Shadow visited Pierro last month.

Desira desires Guineas entry

Untapped 3-year-old Mr Desira (All Too Hard) showed a good turn of foot on Monday morning at the Hawkesbury trials to win his 1000-metre maiden heat by 1.13l. The Matthew Smith-trained gelding has slowly improved over three trials ahead of his raceday debut, and currently holds a nomination for the R. Listed Magic Millions 3YO Guineas in January.

Retained to race by breeder Gerry Harvey after passing in at the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Yearling Sale, he is out of Piazza Del Campo (General Nediym), an unraced daughter of G2 Wakeful S. victress My Sienna (Weasel Clause). Her half-sister Pink City (Danehill {USA}) produced G3 Western Australian Oaks winner Moreish (More Than Ready {USA}).

Among Piazza Del Campo’s other offspring is dual Listed winner Palazzo Pubblico (Conatus), producer of Catoggio (Written Tycoon), winner of the Listed Amanda Elliott H. last month, and Listed Phelan Ready S.-winning Palazzo Spirit (Spirit Of Boom). Piazzo Del Campo passed away in 2022, but Palazzo Pubblico has a daughter born this spring by So You Think (NZ).

Well-bred daughter of Tassort nears exciting raceday debut

Impeccably bred Manaajem (Tassort) backed up her debut trial victory at the start of the month by winning her Hawkesbury heat on Monday for Peter Snowden. The 3-year-old filly beat out Impending Legacy (Impending) by 0.07l.

A homebred for Emirates Park, Manaajem is out of G3 Hawkesbury Guineas winner Najoom (Northern Meteor), making her a half-sister to dual Listed-winning Najmaty (I Am Invincible) and dual Group 3 winner Charm Stone (I Am Invincible). The family features G2 Spirit of Boom Classic winner Bittercreek (Snitzel), who also won the G3 Red Anchor S. in October, as well as sires Bull Point and Criterion. Najoom has a yearling full sister to her stakeswinning daughters, who will be offered at the Gold Coast as Lot 710 in Emirates Park's draft, and she visited Tassort again this spring.

Insane speed on debut for Baker gelding

Zousain gelding Insain hurtled home in his debut trial on Monday morning at the Hawkesbury track, putting 7.82l on the runner-up Nepela (Exceed And Excel). The 3-year-old is trained by Bjorn Baker, who enjoyed a bumper weekend taking out the feature races at Randwick with stable stalwart Robusto (Churchill {Ire}) and emerging talent Within The Law (Lucky Vega {Ire}).

She is a full sister to G2 Chelmsford S.-winning stallion O’Lonhro, out of 11-time winner and triple Group winner Mamzelle Pedrille (Zoffany {Ire}), who is a full sister to Damzelle Pedrille, dam of stakeswinners Diamond Drille, M’Lady Pedrille, and Madame Pedrille.

My Miss Pedrille has a yearling Anders colt yet to appear in a sales catalogue and a filly born this spring by Brave Smash (Jpn).

Zousain filly wins by Magic margin at Beaudesert

Bollinger Miss (Zousain) wound herself up for a Magic Millions bid on Monday with a 4.8l trial win at Beaudesert for father-son training duo Chris and Corey Munce. The 3-year-old filly broke her maiden at Doomben in September and has since placed twice at city level. She is currently nominated for the R. Listed Magic Millions 3YO Guineas next month.

Bred by Widden Stud, Mr B Duncan, and Mr K Nichol, she was offered by Widden Stud on the Gold Coast last year, where The Racing League, Munce Racing, and Arthur Hoyeau paid $150,000 for her. She is the second winner from two runners for Fancy Liquor (Not A Single Doubt), a half-sister to Listed Bel Esprit S. winner Office Bearer (Officer {USA}) whose granddam is G1 Turffontein Star Sprint Super Sheila (Last Tycoon {Ire}).

Widden Stud will offer Fancy Liquor’s Portland Sky filly as Lot 210 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in February, and she has a Written By colt at foot. She was served by Jacquinot in October.
