Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner early in its career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Two exciting 3-year-old runners are set to hit the track at Seymour on Sunday. These include a Dundeel (NZ) colt chasing maiden success and a Derryn filly makes her debut.

Dunori, 3-year-old colt (Dundeel {NZ} x Oribella {Olympic Glory {Ire}})
The Ciaron Maher-trained Dundeel (NZ) gelding Dunori, will be making his third start at Seymour on Sunday over 1300 metres. On debut he ran a solid third at Ballarat on November 14 where he led up and only faded late in the piece behind Somewhere (Puissance De Lune {Ire}), at his second start he settled last from a bad gate and off a slow tempo passed a couple runners late in the piece, that run was not as bad as it looks on paper and he looks well-placed to run well in this event.
This well-bred gelding is the first foal out of the Olympic Glory (Ire) mare Oribella who was a winner as a juvenile, she is also well-related and counts Lady Jivago (Beneteau) as a half-sibling. She was a four-time winner up to 1200 metres including in the R. Listed Inglis 2YO Classic. Lady Jivago has made a great start to her broodmare career with her first foal Zamborghini (Zoustar) selling for $1,250,000 to Matt Laurie Racing from the draft of Widden Stud. He has gone on to win five races so far in his racing career.

While the page is a little bit quiet of black-type up close in the pedigree, there is plenty under the fourth dam. Some of these top-level stakes performers in the family include the super stallion Not A Single Doubt, the young sire King’s Legacy and the Group 1-winning filly Oohood (I Am Invincible).
Oribella since producing Dunori has produced a 2-year-old filly by Written Tycoon named Written Destiny, and a yearling colt by Alabama Express.
Dunori was passed in short of his $100,000 reserve at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Mathletes (NZ), 3-year-old filly (Derryn x Kool Gal {NZ} {Danroad})
Mathletes (NZ), a daughter of Grangewilliam Stud's promising sire Derryn, will be making her debut at Seymour on Sunday for trainer’s Ben, Will and JD Hayes. She has shown glimpses of ability when having plenty of education at the jump-outs and the trials over the last couple of months.
Derryn has been in good form lately and only last weekend produced the very exciting filly Leica Lucy (NZ) to win the G3 Eulogy S. at Trentham. She looks to have plenty of class and could be an Oaks filly later this season.

This New Zealand-bred filly is the sixth foal from the Danroad mare Kool Gal (NZ), who was a four-time winner on the track from 1200 metres to 1600 metres. She is a half-sister to the talented Showcasing (GB) mare So Far Sokool (NZ) who was successful on both sides of the Tasman and counted amongst her three was the Listed Bendigo Guineas.
Kool Gal has proven to be a handy broodmare leaving four winners including Electric Belle (NZ) (Power {GB}) who has been a good metropolitan winner in Melbourne, Enzedder (NZ) (Zed {NZ}), Claudia Shiver (NZ) (Showcasing {GB}) and Kool Power (NZ) (Power {GB})
Kool Gal since producing Mathletes, was due to foal to Redwood (GB) earlier this spring.

Goldarnie (Nicconi) ran a solid enough race on debut for sixth. She wasn't beaten far and should improve off that effort.
Rainbow Glow (Snitzel) was very impressive winning on debut at Canberra. She was dominant and led all of the way.
Danube (Street Boss {USA}) ran okay on debut at Mornington, she raced a bit green and held her position in the straight. It was an improvers run.
